monotherm steel pistons

One of the biggest issues is that Mahle US Motorsports division has to fight for funding and tooling from the mother company. Mahle is a huge company with many divisions and each need to make sense to the managers thus protect the bottom line for the share holders. The US division is a great group of gear heads that work to get us product, but they have steps to go through.

So is there any damn news on these things???
I've been biding my time hoping that something would come about with these monotherm pistons and still nothing...

Dodge has them available to the cummins guys, why not for us? It really pisses me off that Mahle would hold back when/if they could submit them to the public marketplace...

I don't care that they're $4,400 a set, I'd never have to replace them

Why not just run fingers oval bowl. Fingers CAST pistons have been pushed to 1750 hp without failure. For 4400 bucks, I don't think those monotherms are anything worth waiting for.

I have to agree with jason. With the moneotherms you have the best of both worlds having the strength of forged an the reliability of cast pistons. Its a win win in my book an the pricetag is worth the piece of mind. With that said I went with fingers cast pistons since getting my truck up an running is more of a priority. If/when I ever kill Jon's pistons hopefully the monotherms will be released an available to go in. Hopefully the fingers out live the wait for the monotherms. :roflmao:

Jon's ovals ARE what I'm planning on, I just figured if the monotherms were out, I'd use em. I'm going to save quite a bit by assembling the engine myself, so I figure what the hell, right?

The only issue that worries me about using anything cast, is my luck...
It's not so great if ya haven't noticed, lol

I decided this weekend to put the SS on the back burner for a bit, was going to order up a D1-SC set up for it, looked out the window at the crew cab and I just couldn't do it. So I started looking to see if monotherms had made it to the marketplace yet, and wouldn't ya know it, nope!

See that is a very comforting thought to me but that was on a dyno how will the hold up at that power level drag racing an sled pulling every weekend is yet to be determined. They're fatal flaw will always be the material they are made out of. To each there own I guess an I'm sure Brett will make these pistons show what they can truly handle when his truck is back to racing

I'm not planning on coming anywhere near 1700whp, are you?
I'm pretty confident that Jon's ovals are sufficient for my needs, but you just can't beat the comfort a monotherm would provide...

Well tbh had some life changing things happened that required my attention an funds more then the truck regretfully. The motor is done minus turbo/s injectors an pumps all the rest is done as well. I haven't decided just how far I want to push it I know north of 1000 I've set a personal goal of at least that on fuel.

The first speculation was the shear weight of the monotherm was the problem. Now before you say monotherms are the end all to pistons what will they weigh..and do we really need more rotating weight added to our already dreaded crank

I may be very wrong but I thought they were supposed to be lighter???? Not sure I haven't read anything about em since this thread was started. However I do agree about our cranks

Fingers pistons have proven themselves, mark drives white lightening at 1000+ hp and for over a year he has been saying he is just waiting for his motor to go boom. So they're reliable at a high hp level, and they have been taken to higher horsepowers than some forged pistons can stand.

But the ultimate piston would be a monotherm piston with johns bowl design in it
