Not sure what you mean. What I'm saying is to apply the same tuning method you would to get a non-VVT truck to spool fast to a VVT tune then add in the fact that the vanes help the turbo spool faster to begin with and you have a turbo that lights instantly and will break tires loose from 35-40 mph on a stock turbo and at even higher speeds on a modded VVT.

Well i am still so confused... I have talked to numerous third parties that have no affiliation with either of the dealers/installers and i get different answers from everyone. I guess it boils down to personal preference and i don't have a preference since i haven't experienced either of them. And the cp3 is even worse. Some say 600 with stock cp3 and lots say no. UGH!!!!!!!

IMOP they are going to achieve similar performance just need to decide if you want to keep variable vain . i like a fixed wheel waste gated charger myself . as far as cp3 do your turbo first and tune it ... if its needs more fuel after give it more .

You can't tune them quite the same way. The vanes in the VVT turbo throw an extra variable into the equation. If you close your vanes too much and bring on the boost to quick, you will cause the vanes to stay stuck closed and your DP will go through the roof.

However, I suppose you could set your vane position to as close to fully open as possible, tune your truck to spool up as if it was a fixed geometry and then start messing with the vane position table to fine tune it while keeping drive pressure 1:1. I think this would give a guy the best performing turbo. I've never actually tried doing this but I think I am going to try it and see what happens.

I haven't done as much tuning as most of the people on this forum, but from what I understand of how the VVT works, and the tables I have worked with, it makes sense to me.

I need to talk to Simon about this more as he had both his stock VVT and his HTT both dialed right and they both spooled amazingly quick! Sure wish he had internet to chime in here.

I've never seen a VNT spool as fast as a SS HTT s300.:cool: I am going to build a 600hp lb7 over the summer and the 66 SS HTT will be used.

I tired ALOT of stuff to try and get rid of the mega 1st gear and half way into 2nd bog on the stock turbo and never had very good results... well at the time I thought it was pretty sweet. It would shift into second and light the tires up, but I wasn't that impressed with it. It would spin them the same if it geared down into 2nd.

But then I threw on the HTT and it put it to shame without any fine tuning. When I get some time off I'll work on my tune some more, but so far its great.

I have run both a cheetha and a 40-94r and of course the stock vnt and After all was said and done i thought the 40-94r was the best for me over all. I belive the htt are simular. the cheetha may of had some quicker low end but the 94 seemed to have alot more mid to high end power. turbos are hard to judge one might be great for one guy and not for the next. the good thing is the resale on both turbos would be good. so if you didnt like it you could always sell one and by the other. when i can twins will be what i will go with. best of both worlds. Good luck with your decesion.

I have made my decision... Still not sure if it is the right one or not but we shall see.

64mm cheetah, 60 over nozzles, mod my regulator, airdog 150, port rail, shim rail, single stack, and a stage IV suncoast tranny. I had decided on the danville charger then me and brayden got to talking over some turbo customizations we could do and so i will be doing it that away. Wish me luck the date is set for surgery. It is May the 20th threw the 23rd. Thanks for all the help. Maybe i am doing right.

Ive had it happen. At least I think it did. I was trying to get the tuning dialed in and at times if i stomped on it my truck would just get stuck at around 1800 rpms no matter what the pedal position but when I would back off of it it would correct itself. Doing some vain tuning ended up fixing it.

Im glad you finally got it all figured out. How is the turbo doing for you? I have a very good friend who did alot of tuning on a 02' Dmax with the HTT and got him in the mid 12s. PM me if you want me to set you up with some great tuning.

good to hear man. they made 630hp with a very similar setup on jneals truck. i would have went with a little larger but if brayden said that would be good then go with what he says
