Soot PID and forcing regen using EFILive?

On the Colorado:

1) Using either V7.5 or V8, where would I find the "soot load" PID for logging? Is this a PID that has to be "created" instead, and if so, how do I go about it?
2) If there is a way in EFILive to force a "service"-type regen to clean the system out, what is the procedure to do it?

Thanks for any help.

PS: My Tech2 only goes up to 2014 vehicles, so its of no help, and Ive never been able to get my MDI to work.

I don't remember finding soot load being difficult to find. V8 was more difficult because they sorted the pids into categories, on V7 I just sorted them by name and jt was there. It you have the wrong controller selected then you may not see the pid. Using the search you can type soot and find any/all that have that in its name. It's not a custom pid but one that is in GMs programming

For regens, you have to go into the DVT tab. Select the controller/ECM or let it auto detect. Then the activate button. You'll see under DVT there are multiple sub tabs. One tab will have controls for things like engine rpm, vane position, etc. another tab has the service regen and another for forced regen. I found that the ECM doesn't always take the request and I have to deactivate and reactivate the DVT. And click the service regen multiple times before it accepts.

Another tip is to select the pids related to regen to see the inhibit reason, regen status, number of regens so you can see the number go up when it's finished for verification. I also like to log ECT as it needs to be up to temp (140? Or above before ot will start) and exhaust temp sensors as they need to be warmed up too. You can also use this to see if any one is way off from the others and possibly bad. I'll usually watch the differential pressure sensor too

If needed I can do some screen shots later today when I'm at my computer

I wouldnt force a regen unless you need to due to a code or service done.
I'll follow Jason's advice first and see whats up. Just seems it's regenning very often after i fixed all those codes with the new sensors, so it may need a service regen to "reset" the system.

I don't think a service regen "resets" the system as you may think, At least not if the vehicle is already regenerating on its own

As you probably already know, service regen is for forcing it to start one after an issue prevented it from being able to do it automatically. Such as a code, sensor failure or certain driving conditions that loaded up the DPF beyond limits.

If it's regenerating too often then the next step is to monitor the pids and see what's up before forcing a service regen. You can do it. Probably wouldn't hurt anything. Bit it will likely return to the same mannerisms without dealing with the reason it's doing it in the first place.

Well like the boys said, it wont help the issue or reset anything. Instead I’d see if the ecm is up to date on calibrations and flash it if not.

Bear in mind that it will do passive regens quite a bit. City driving will increase frequency a bunch.

I’m still waiting on the new power service dpf flush. It is supposed to ship this week. If it can get me back to 300 miles between regens I’m good with it, this 150 to 200 mile interval is not working. My fuel economy is at like 8mpg. Seems as though the emissions system work about long enough to get you thru the first year so you can’t lemon law it.

I would would try and get on the highway. A good 30 mile stretch and allow it to regen uninterrupted watching all your pids.

I had an issue with my LML when one of the exhaust temperature sensors would short out at high temps causing the regen to stop. Temps would go down and the sensor would start to read correctly again and the regen would start again.

It took a few months of this before it set a code.

I know with my CTS2 I could initiate a regen while driving. Not sure if EFI Live has this ability.

Efi live has two. Service regen where it's done right there parked. And a forced regen that tells the ECM to initiate one at the earliest available time. These I believe are GM specific commands and names

Good to know. Forced Regen is great depending upon your driving style and how you use your truck. If the DPF is close to full and your on a highway it’s a good tool to get a complete Regen cycle

Thanks for that insight, guys. Woody, I will do my best. I do know it regens when we're driving to our kid's homes over an hour away. Can hear the change in turbo/engine sound, and the idle speed jumps to 950.

Yeah, I know....why the heck havent I just gotten rid of all of it already?
