Needing a water pump for my LLY. Wondering if anyone has run into water pumps slipping lately? I can get an AC Delco on Amazon for $67. The welded/pinned pumps are $190. Still worth the extra money or was that only a problem with the older pumps?
Thanks

Pinned is best. But if you can get one and weld it, just as well.

I've used ma welded pumps in 500 600 hp trucks with no issues but Steves did not last more than 2 weeks so I installed a Danville pump. Great pump and marks a great guy so buy a Danville pump.

I had a Merchant welded pump and the weld broke and spun the impeller off and it ate into my engine block. Danville pinned pump is the only way to go!!

Nothing against merchant but mine was only stitch welded in two spots, they didn't even go all the way around so I finished it off myself with the tig at work which I should have done to begin with.

I tried to pin my good ol autozone pump. The shaft was too hard for any of the drill bits i had. Ended up drilling down the side of the shaft and then basically filled the holes back up with weld. Been spinning 4000rpm and 900+hp for 5 mmonths now no problem.

I have ran a MA welded water pump for 4 years running at 4500 rpms in a 900hp truck. It gave up the ghost this past winter during a sled pull.

A good set of HSS bits and correct speed and lube work best, but you got the right idea, it doesn't need to be perpendicular to the shaft to keep it from spinning.

Had a truck today with a spun pump. Fairly stock truck.

Very weird symptoms but got it figured out and fixed.
