Ah yeah, I also left my Samsung cell phone on top of Stbd outdrive, and sent it through a prop at 60mph Saturday. Wasn't exactly sure what the black pieces I spotted 100' in the air above the roost actually were, until I stopped the boat and noticed Pandora was no longer playing on the stereo.. Was it a bird? A plane? Nope it was my S7 Active learning to fly. Which while it didn't damage the prop, actually melted plastic from the case to one blade on impact...

Been stuck using an Iphone while waiting for a new-to-me S8 Active to arrive. That's been the worst thing to report last 3 trips and 35 miles or so in the books now.

I was wondering those exact same physics questions.

So ya have a SS shaft, 1.75" diameter spinning 3000RPM, and a 18" diameter SS prop with 32" pitch and 18* rake on said shaft, and our phone landed somewhere in the 14" diameter range.

S7 Active weighs in at 184.8 g not including the extra protective case according to internet. We know it stuck the blade back side down because of the melted plastic left on blade. Last seen flying 150' through the air moving at approximately 100mph.

Did the Gorilla Glass 4 survive the impact??

🤔

Logged another 40 miles last weekend, and camped out on it overnight to make sure it didn't spring a leak. Here is some pics.

Beside the one leaking gear reduction box, it did great. Even locked though with it to get back into our local pool. Tested couple tune changes, learned there is some more factor tables in play we hadn't accounted for. In one tune she ran 60mph at 3000r WOT with 16lbs boost and 950egt. Was actually very clean and smooth. Next tune, busted the props loose at 3000R, jumped to 4500r, and made 42lbs boost at 1550egt. Hit 76mph easily on that one before I backed out. Think it's time to set the hatch on and ditch the ear plugs..

Heading over to Dayton OH area later in the week to attend a little gathering of hot boat nuts.

Gonna be close to the Dmax plant, thinking I might stop by with it for show and tell. However lost all my contacts in there who hit me up years back about bringing the original Dmax boat by for exchange for a line tour. Thinking they might like a new photo for the break room wall.

If anyone has a good plant contact, PM me and I'll see if they mind if I swing by.

Wheel seal went out of my truck Friday and didn't make it to Dayton on Saturday. Rolling back south with boat tomorrow, and will be testing in Sarasota FL area for next couple weeks. We know it's good in fresh water, but likely never see anything but salt from hear on out.

Catch cans arrived last week, so I can finally ditch the OJ bottles now. Looked a several nice options, but since don't know exactly where I'm mounting them yet, picked up some cheap 750ml units to test with. Doing a return drain to the pan on these, added a few scubies to the mix and a modified check valve setup to hopefully keep the liquid flowing in right direction..

I would guess to say due to added buoyancy from the salt?
That's what I've been told. Less drag also I believe.

Boats also run faster in choppy water than smooth as glass. If you look at any modern sport boat hulls, they use steps to suck air under the running surface and which breaks surface tension and is good for about 15mph or more compared to non-stepped hull like this boat.

My best Florida tech on the job today tackling that leaking gear reduction box.

He has all the right skills for the job. Young, nimble, skinny, and a total diesel gearhead. Think he got it sealed up tight. Now to mount the catch cans, and then hit the water again.

I'll release his name, once we're done here..
