Twin setup with Danville 72 question

It is pretty common to see a bullseye 483 over a Danville 72 but I was curious why we don't see many bigger primaries? At what point does the 72 become a restriction? Curious how much more power something like a S598 or similar would make compared to a s483 in a twin setup.

there has been bigger and its being pushed. guys have been going to the 485 and larger over the 72. expense vs power increase and tubing fabrication i believe becomes the biggest factor in why you dont see larger turbos

James - I remember Mark saying he loves the stainless 485 with the 68stg2r. I would have thought the 72r could pair with something even larger. Hmm.

You could put a S488 over it as well but you will lose response. Someone on here has a 488 over his 72.

I have a 72r right now I just wasn't sure if it was reasonable to throw a 598 or similar over the top or if that's overkill. I have dual modified Danville pumps and 250 overs

Are you speaking from experience? I have been discussing with Mark about a compound setup, he's suggested that I go with the 488 and 100's over my 68.

Hey krodmax, I believe a user by the name of Trojan put a nlx488 over his 72 and said he noticed some response being lost coming from a 483. Maybe he will chime in. Mark knows his stuff though and his 68stg2r is very responsive!

How much power are you making right now and who does your tuning?

I haven't been on a dyno on this exact setup but it should be right at about 1000 and I've tried a few different tunes, Rob is the only one who's been able to make it run right so that's what's on there now.

After I get my 369’s on I’m sending the truck to Mark. I think a lot of hp and response is left on the table with email tunes.

Totally agree, not saying email tunes suck. Just saying it’s easier to dial in a controlled environment

For sure, I might need to make the drive out to Danville. I've ran some of Mark's tunes before and could never get it to run right over email.

Every trucks tune is different. I bet you haven’t even come close to the potential of your setup. I just wish I wasn’t 1800 miles away from Mark!
