Turbo suggestions for 7.1 build

Looking for any input on possible turbo set up on a new engine build, 7.1 SoCal stroker, stg2 heads, 9100 cam, 2.25” headers and up pipes, probably a wagler intake. It will be a hot street truck/ drag racing. Fuel for now will be lly 100overs. I’m thinking FI s476/87/.90 in the valley and something over 100mm as a low pressure turbo later. Open to any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks

You might be better off with a 96 turbine in the valley. Depending on the rpm range you want to run in, but judging by your 9100 cam you’re gonna be running higher rpm.

I plan on running up to 5,000-5,200 rpm. The 96mm turbine would be a t6 flange I think, I wonder how well that would spool on the street with a 96 turbine T6? I would think “guess” the big heads, cam and added displacement would help spooling, anyone have experience with that set up? Thanks, any input helps guysI have no experience with even a mildly built motor let alone this monster.

If you're going to be turning 4500rpm+ and trying to be efficient there you either need a 96 turbine (you can get them in tight T4 housings) or a wastegate. @coker6365 has done some pretty extensive testing and noticed that after mid 4xxxrpm (can't remember the exact RPM) drive pressure starts to climb. That's on a FI 472/491 compound setup.

As for 96 T6 on the street, just don't. I did it for Diesel Power Challenge 2019 and it was a bear on the street. Once you got the thing lit it was an absolute riot and a monster but the transient response left alot to be desired. I think that could be resolved with a tight T4 housing but I never ran one to confirm my suspicion.

Thanks for the input! Talked to FI and they can do a 476/92 in T4, and they have Black Friday sale going. Might be a good balance between drive pressure and decent street manners. Still considering a few other options though.

The 92 may be but I do not have personal experience with them. When you're ready to get something heading your way there are a few vendors on here (myself included) who are FI dealers and can easily get you squared away.

I personally think a 476 is about as much turbo as you have fuel for with 100s. What stall converter? What injection pumps?

Close to 900 as I can get on single turbo and 100’s then I’ll add another turbo and more injector for 1200 later. At least that’s kinda my plan. I know the longblock is probably overkill for that power level but power is addictive and I’m hard on equipment.

Hopefully the tuner knows how to use a drive pressure gauge and a timing calculator.....

Your cam is too big for a street truck. When you mentioned 9100 cam I assumed you were going for 1500hp+. I would put a much smaller on in and run a 72/87 and a 91/100 over the top. Easily make 1200 with great street manners.

My power goal seems to be going up, lol I wouldn’t mind 1500hp at all. I’m gunna drive it on the street regardless.

I used to drive a bbc mud truck with a 308 duration cam, 4500 stall manual valvebody th400 on the street. Loved every minute of it.

I appreciate all the comments, this is my first built diesel hotrod and need some different perspectives.
