Tow/haul system misbehaving

Last month I bought a 2003 Duramax with an Allison Trans. It has a few issues but nothing major for a truck with 284000 miles on it. The biggest problem is the tow/haul mode turns on and off whenever it feels like it. The button on the shifter doesn't work. I figure it is a problem in the wiring in the steering column but right now don't have the time to get into it. Is there a connector somewhere I can unplug for now to make the system inoperable?

Broken wire at the column tilt joint. Take the lower column cover off (its fragile) and repair the wires. It'll be obvious once you're in there.

X2. Iirc its an orange and black wire. I always have left them unclipped when ive fixed them. I think them being clipped to the column is what causes them to rub and break. At least ive never fixed one twice that ive left unclipped.
