So I’m elbows deep into trying to get a good enough 305 SBC together for my boat but struggling to find head gaskets. It’s an 86 up block with an approx. bore diameter of 3.75”. Inside edge of the stock steel shim gasket is about 3.85”. I cannot find anything under 4” or any definitive info on the thickness I need when going from a steel shim to layered gasket. I’m thinking .040” should be good. Any help from y’all would be mint!!

Try the fel pro 505sd. They were made specifically for the smaller bore v8's. Last time they measured out .044 for me. Been awhile since I messed with a 305 :D

Thanks.

Did a search for it and it led me down a road to rockauto where I found a couple different options that I’ll throw at the local NAPA idiot and see if he can’t source something that I don’t have to wait two weeks or more for.

305’s are dumb. If this motor lasts the summer I’ll be putting in a full rebuilt 350 in it for next year
