Got my truck running and made a couple hooks. plan to upgrade rear end parts this winter. truck currently has a Yukon 30 spline spool and moser axles. what are you guys using, I don't plan to run duals, will stay a single tire. would like to upgrade to the 38 spline stuff, also was looking at some of the support braces from performance pros also.

what do you guys use, looking for some suggestions?

Single tires are what will save ur rear end. Still, 30 splines may not be enough. The only ones holding up consistently are dual-splined38 splines, or anything bigger like lawnboy mentioned .

Running duals is hard on parts. We torn my rear end down to see how it was holding up. Everything looked great. Spool, axles and drive plates all showed no signs of damage. Replaced r&p just as a safety precaution. But even they looked ok.

I have had good luck with dual splined 38 spline axles.

Dana 80 guys cant seem to get their rears to last very long, meanwhile surprisingly the AAM's seem to be one of the few things to hold up for us! (after proper upgrades, of course).

Unfortunately r&p's don't hold in either. Hopefully the rumors are true and PPL is at least going to consider some rule changes to help that.

The r&p are pretty strong. Truck set up can have a lot to do with some of the failed r&p. I sure hope open rear ends are not coming to the 2.6 class. It's kinda out of hand now. When wil it stop? First open rears, then drop box reverser. Next tube chassis......

That's cuz the AAM's are better. :D We were able to break 80's in the gas truck days. Though the 80's were stronger than the 14 bolt rears, but not by much

I think Truck setup and R/P setup has all to do with R/P life, Our current R/P is 3 seasons old, 2 seasons with duals and installed in 2 different rear housings. Our truck always hooks smooth and a "pro" sets our gears up.....or maybe we just arnt making any power!!!:D

all awesome info, thank you guys! I figured with the single rear tire and keep the tire pressure up will get me through the rest of the year. hopefully upgraded rear end parts and some bigger injectors over the winter!

Sorry. I didn't mean to make it sound like that. We would love to know how to set our rear end up so that the r&p lasted longer. We have what seems to make them last as long as anybody else's, but on the average 7 hooks. As far as truck set up, to me if you got a setup that hooks good and smooth, it doesn't get any better than that. And usually when you see a truck like that, its breaking r&p's.

I should have mentioned we pulled in IL, MO, KY, IN with PPL this year. I suppose type of dirt could possibly have an effect on this also.

We run the the gear a little deeper then is recommended. Sometimes constant failure may be caused by a tweaked housing. Also wouldn't recommend China made gears.

I would have to say we run on some very tight tracks. With some very good running Dmaxs. R&P just don't seam to be a problem. May be just me though

All though no one likes to admit it, driver error sometimes can play a role in any failure. Don't forget, when you break a u-joint Friday night fix it for Saturday night then something else breaks. When you break something in the driveline it sends a shockwave through rest of the drivetrain.

We also have the pinion in pretty deep and backlash tight. Yukon gears. Housing out of a stock truck at the beginning of the year. Which doesn't mean it isn't tweaked or I haven't tweaked it already. I did have a front driveshaft failure that could have been a problem for one of the r&p's this year. I'm not arguing with you at all. Just sharing my experiences, which are limited compared to most. And driver error is never out of the question for me. :D
