Hey everybody, I am a long time lurker of this site, love reading all the good information here. I've been through a few duramax's, loved everyone of them, just kept finding good deals and couldn't pass them up. But, I decided it was time to post something, since I have been lurking so long :thumb:.

I decided I hated the look of my summer rims, so I went looking for options and I came up with plasti-dip as the best option for me. So here are a few pictures. I cleaned them up really good, washed each 3 times with some cleaners, wiped them down really well and let them dry for a while. I masked one and sprayed it to just see what it would do, after the second coat I was hooked, so i masked the rest off with duct tape and newspaper. Each rim has 5 coats on it (hope that's not too much). Love the way they turned out, just really hope they hold up (with my luck half of it will fling off on my way out of the driveway :roflmao:) Anyway, the picture on the truck sucks because it's taken in my garage, the truck is kinda grounded, have parts everywhere right now) When I get it out in the sun, I'll take better pictures. I found some very useful information on this forum that pushed me toward the plasti-dip, love this site. Thanks guys for all the good stuff here!!

I plasti dipped my old 22s and my buddy is still driving around with them and it's been a good 8 months ago and still look good, they should hold up pretty good and for what it is you can't beat it

No kidding, pretty cheap way to freshen up a set of rims, my truck is white, painted handles mirror bumper trim, and I am really liking the matte black in the mix, I will post pictures soon. I was a little worried about how they would hold up but everyone ive talked to says they will hold up fine.

Put some index cards in the lips and spray away. That's what I've always done. Makes cleaning up easy.

I still don't have enough posts to post pictures on here, but I will post them up as soon as I can. It was really easy, easier than I thought, no real prep besides cleaning the rims really good and masking the rubber off. I tried the playing card or index card trick but for some reason my tire wheel combo wouldn't work. So I used duct tape and newspaper to get it all masked off. I will get some pictures up soon.

This is what they originally looked like. American Eagle 145. They were just really dated, really popular when the truck was new in 04.

I cleaned them up really good, used duct tape and newspaper to mask them off. Sprayed 2 coats on the first one just to see, then couldn't resist doing the others.

I'll have the truck out this weekend and take some better pictures in the sun, hard to tell in the garage what they really look like. But I really like the way they turned out.

TX of course
The card trick doesn't work with a lot of aggressive tire due to them having a rim guard build into the side wall. To protect the wheels from rocks and such.

i used masking tape instead of cards due to what dozer mentioned. And PS, cut the tape off, don't just rip it off... the dip will bond to the tape and literally pull the dip back off the rim.

some before and after close up.

Most of what can be seen on the after picture is dust, but there were a few small spots i didn't fully sand out, but overall the dip is VERY forgiving. hides a lot.

Also I would not plastidip a step It will not handle that sort of force on it at all. I've pressure washed my wheels several times and along with the awesome illinois road salt, they haven't had any issues.

toward the end of the can the tip will begin to spit a little, just wipe it off and it'll be ok It doesn't quite take a full can per wheel with 4 coats, so the little bit left in the can when it starts to spit won't be to much of a loss.

Agreed, the tip that came on it is fine. Even if it splatters a little bit it evens out. Here are some pictures of the wheels on the truck out in the sun. I just painted the hub and axle end flat black, I think it looks great with the chrome lug nuts.
