More turbo threads I read the more confused I get

I personally would look at getting your turbo rebuild with a port and polish. Not sure what that's worth for EGT's exactly but if you're not really after more power no point in spending thousands when you can spend hundreds.

What all else is done in the motor? If your stock internally I'd be careful. I'm running everything you can do basically with stock turbo , injectors, and cp3 in my lmm and motor innards are stock. Got max effort tuning by ppei and I'm a turbo size bigger or injector size from popping my motor.

So you think a stock trans will hold up towing with twin turbos and a tune? I wouldn't give too much advice......

I couldn't tow on a stock turbo without limping my Lilly, I could make my LMM converter cry the few times I actually towed.

I built my trans ASAP this go around, well, it came out real fast but it was sooner than later, lol.

Ok, so been doing a bunch more reading, including 90+ pages on Mark's BMW 3794 Stage 2, and a ton of threads on his 68mm Stg2R.

I think I have decided that I am going to replace the factory turbo, then start building another motor. Once I have a short block done in a couple years (LML crank, carillo rods, Mahle cast pistons) I think I will throw a S480 on top over whatever valley charger I am choosing now....

That being said, I think I have narrowed it down to 3 valley chargers. SDP's 3794 68mm w/billet wheel, Danville BMW 3794 Stage 2 or Danville's 68mm Stg2R. All the threads I have been reading about the Danville BMW 3794 make it sounds like the bees knees when it came out, then about a year or 2 later when the 68 Stg2R came out, a bunch of people who were running the 3794 switched to it and said spoolup was about the same but the turbo had more up top...

Prolly going to send my injectors out to Exergy to get them honed to 45% over when I put the turbo in...

So thoughts between the 3 turbos I listed?

3 good choices imo. I'm stuck in the same boat with my LMM. I decided to wait until I can afford a full engine build but I've pretty much landed on the 68stg2r.

I think either danville option will work out well for you. Either way that trans will need to be done.

I know I jave a built motor but I have had twins on a few trucks. My present SDP setup is the best I have experienced. Very good spool up and EGT's are kept in check when towing

Really? I thought that his 68 stg2r was built on a 4094 frame? Kind of surprising, if the 68 is faster spooling than his 3494 that the decision really easy...

Hard trying to find any reviews on the SDP 68mm...

Yeah that's doesn't make any sense to me either.

I find it doubtful the 68 spools as fast as the 3794.

Pick your power goals realistically and chose the combo that will get you there. Max effort a 3794/480 does 950hp and the 68/483 does 1150hp IIRC. You can always spray it too for a boost ocasional if you have the fuel.

So power options, I want to be at 600-650 max effort on my current motor., daily drive around 450-500.. Once I go built (with a S475/480 over) I would like to be 800-900 ish max effort, but most likely would drive around way lower 500-600. That being said sounds like the 3794 might be the better bet?

Now do I got with Danville's 3794 or SDP 3794 (he has a BMW 65mm and also a billet 68mm 3794)....

Edit: I suppose I should mention I have been running Mark's VGT chargers for the past 5 or so years. I have run them from basically stock all the way up to my current 1100+hp. The only failure I ever had was due to a large amount of spray and an additional CP3 worth of fuel. Had I spoken to Mark I have no doubt he could have made some adjustments and kept the old 68mm 4094 in one piece. Since4 then I have beaten the heck out of the replacement charger and have had nothing but great luck. Fantastic spool along with big top end power.
