Fml the sound is back from the pump. I think I’m going to have to pull the sump off and see what’s going on. Of course I have 3/4 of a tank

Ok was able to drain the tank. Thought my boat oil sump was going to be able to suck it all out but after about 5 gallons it started smoking. It’s a lil cheapo oil change sump pump so I don’t think there is enough in diesel to lube it. No worries. Pulled the hose off the sump I installed and two dirt bike gas cans, a bathroom garbage can with a thick garbage bag for a liner and one Home Depot bucket later all the gas is out haha.

Now here’s the real question. What in the holy hell is this?!!!! When I dropped the sump this was sitting in the bowl. Looks like a rubber plug of sorts that I’m fairly sure should not be in or anywhere near the gas tank. This would def cause the sump to plug and starve the lift pump. But now I’m worried if there is more of it in there

It looks like a black rubber cap of some sort. Wonder if some one stuffed it down the fill hole at some point.

Got it all back together. Rail pressure actual matches the requested and the lift pump isn’t making the cavitation noise anymore. When I punch it i maintains about 21-22k psi with no fall of.

I was going to throw in a PPE rail plug while I was at it but I realized my glow plug module bracket isn’t like any of the “04.5 and up” videos I watched. Took me a minute to figure out how to even access the valve. Finally got to it but couldn’t break the MFer free. Slipped it off twice so before I made a mess of everything I said F it and left the valve in there. Knock on wood it holds up.

I hear they are tight. I have not done one myself. Maybe needs to be done in a vice?

Glad you got it fixed! :thumb:

Ok I tried to test the pressure at the shrader valve by the alternator but none of the fittings in the fuel pressure tester kit at the local autozone fit. It’s def different than what I’m used to so not sure if diesels use a special gauge and fitting?

I see no one answered this so for future use I will.

Yes they are different. Normally you would see I believe 2 inches of vacuum with no lift pump. The gauge that works on that fitting for diesel applications usually reads vacuum and pressure but only around 15 lbs either way depending on the manufacture.

Kennedy Diesel has a lower cost one. Reads 7.5 PSI on the pressure side and 15 HG on the vacuum side.

Nice. Thanks. I’m actually going to run a fuel pressure gauge in the cab off of the lift pump as the FASS has a port to run off of. This will give me pump psi out put and the CTS2 will monitor the rail pressures.
