I recently picked up a 2004 silverado 1500 4wd regular cab shortbed truck . the plan is to remove the motor and trans from my current truck and put into the 1/2 ton . the truck has dyno'd 860 rwhp on fuel only and 1162 rwhp on spray . we recently put all billet parts in the allison and are running clutches from Evan @ limitless . we plan to run a 10 point roll cage .

Initially I thought of converting it to 2wd and 4 link rear setup .
I want to keep it street legal and run it at a few local tracks and compete for "The List" ( copying street outlaws ) and try to make it to some NHRDA races .

what are the pros and cons of 2wd vs 4wd ? and what class should I look to fall into for racing ?

Why do I keep doing this?

Talk to Chris (thunder550). He will know all the pratfalls to the swap. Engine mounts are the main one.

Glad you bought a 4wd. Easier to convert that to 2wd than to start with a 2wd frame.

For NHRDA your class choices are going to be ET (12.0 and slower), Super Diesel (11.90 index), 10.90 index if they keep it around, or pro street. You can't run a 4 link in super street. You're going to have to be pretty quick to compete in pro street, current record is 8.51 @ 160 but don't let that stop you since you have to start somewhere. Also you have to be cert'd to 9.99/135+ for pro street, but that shouldn't be a problem if you have all the equipment and can get licensed/chassis cert.
