Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the pitman arm on an 05 Silverado :baby:
get a pitman arm removal tool It is one of those fork thingys
You will def need something big. You'll probably have to remove the bolts in the steering box to get the puller on the arm good. It also helps to take the 2 supports off of the sway-bar and move it downwards out of the way.
First, you must unbolt the gear box. 3 21mm bolts, very easy.
Second, unhook the center link and get it out of the way.
Third, PUSH the box back towards the firewall, yes, it will go enough.
Install the puller, tighten and remove
If you pull the box FORWARD, you risk causing a leak at the input shaft to the gear box unless you unhook the steering shaft. You can do that, but you can save that step by pushing the box towards the firewall.
JMO.
Shouldn't have to pull all 3 bolts from the box
You should have done the idler pivot while you were in there.
Disconnect the pitman arm from centerlink. Pull the bottom 2 bolts that bolt the steering box to frame & just loosen the top one. Pivot the box back & use pitman arm puller. Do the same thing to install new pitman arm, but don't torque it until all 3 frame to steering box bolts are tight. 184lbs or something close IIRC
