So it dropped down to 10F degrees here and I would let my truck warm up for about 15 mins and it would only be at 110 ect on the Insight. Started looking up high idle mods and found the "hold gas, press brake three times-high idle" mod..

I didn't believe it and I tried it and as soon as I got done with the third brake pump...BAM! Elevated idle on!

Are there anymore tips and tricks like this that make life easier? I'm not talking about popping the hood and physically drilling holes or rerouting stuff or anything like that.. key on, hold your tongue, click your heels.. BAM.. hahaha

Thanks!

From heymccall over at DP:

Turn the ignition key to run(engine off), then hold the accelerator to the floor and, while holding the accelerator to the floor, cycle the brake pedal 3 times within 8 seconds. The odometer display will switch to a message, either "elevated idle on" or "elevated idle off", depending upon whether it was active or inactive to start with.

I'll be darned.

Those are the "little items" in the thing inside the glove box, I believe it is called the owners manual, the book that rarely if ever is read..

There is a toggle switch under the drivers side seat to change from stock tuning to race tuning. Dealers dont want you to know about it. Safety thing, it also takes the governor off the vehicle.

Any more specific? Type of switch? Gained hp? Any other details of "race tuning".. pics?

I dont have any pictures of it. Its a toggle switch linked to the ECM. Id say with the switch on you gain about 200 horsepower over stock. With no supporting mods needed.

I know where it is so well by now that I turn it on when I need to pass people and turn it back off after. I was getting shocked a couple times in the beginning though. When I would go to hit the switch I would miss and press the positive wire into the seat frame. It would ground out and get me good with all those 24 volts from the two batteries.

No wonder I'm having a hard time keeping headlights in my truck.. I need the military 24v ones

My uncle wired a Model A spark plug into his car on the passenger seat, just to give the new passenger a jolt....

This thread should be renamed SUPERSERETSQURRELSHIT....

Well the original creator of this thread would appreciate you taking the "comedy" to another thread..

This thread was meant for REAL truck hacks to be posted here..

Now back to the original discussion..

So I found the original elevated idle on my truck..

1.key on 2. Accelerator pedal to the floor 3. Push and release brake three times 4. Release accelerator pedal 5. Start engine

This was easy and made my life a lot easier..

Are there any other REAL hacks like this one that everyone should know about?

It might.. there isn't a whole lot of detail on this.. why would you need it above 32 tho?

Doesn't it only work under 32° and when the truck is cold?

Mine came on at I believe at 40 degrees, never checked to see if I could turn it on or off via the steering wheel settings. It is not just an elevated per se, it engages the converter and a few other changes to increase the load to to the engine to warm it.

Back to the owners manual 2001-2010, how to "unlock" the spare tire carrier using the OEM jack, it is in there, although sometimes you have to cut the cable if is rusted.
