So I got some clevite h from Xdp, and some hx from SoCal. But they look completely different and the h looks like ass. Is that normal? The SoCal hx is the grey, the clevite h from Xdp is the tan.

Just a street truck. Callie’s crank, rods and stage 2af cam. Fingers cast ovals. Manton top end. Stock injectors with a10mm cp3. Single 472. Dhd trans with a J.

So the width difference is normal?

You would have been just fine on stock or P bearings.

I dont know that the width difference is normal. Your mixing bearings so who knows.

P bearings had .0022 clearance. The hx was .004 and the h/hx combo is .0026. Think Monday I will give SoCal a call and see what they say. Was told the hx from them were clevite also, but the machine shop said they were some off brand he never heard of. But idk if that’s just cause they came in a SoCal package and not a clevite.

Eventually I plan on 100-150% injectors and a 14mm cp3. And maybe a bigger single at that time or shortly after.

Your crank will be an issue before the bearings will be if you go with the softer P’s. Its not like they “squish out” and deform at the levels your after.

Theres no way the P’s will be .0022 in every rod of yours. That clearance changes/is different in every rod even after “sized”. Thats why most builders have additional bearings than just a standard pack. You can get .0015 on one rod and .0028 on the next. Sometimes swapping the tightest with the loosest negates that issue. Just depends. Same goes for the HX. Most of those ive done come out in the .003+ range.

What are you doing on your mains?

You are putting alot of money into that engine. Running miss matches bearings does not give me the warm and fuzzies. May not be an issue, may be an issue. Worth that risk? I’d either hold out for H’s or run P’s.

I have a full set of p, h and hx. Last I knew guy at SoCal mixed h and hx often to get proper clearances. Have h main bearings, believe he said they were .003. Have SoCal billet main caps.

Apparently the hx I got from Dhd that came from SoCal were kings according to the machine shop. He sourced some clevite hx and with those I’m at .0029, mixed with the clevite h I’m at .0024. The king hx were .0034. Probably just gonna run the clevite hx. Or should I mix the clevite h and hx?
