What’s the consensus here? Replace with oem as they fail?
That’s what we have been doing but I also have not researched other options.

Na i use Fish tunings. I cant remember if they are on his site but just call them and they will send them to ya. They are like $25 each iirc. We have had 0 come backs over the last 5 years using them. He made them for us way back when and starting selling them since

The stock ones start fretting and loose connection. All that brown dust inside is from that

Glow plugs - I don't have a good answer as to "why" they fail. We replace with OEM GM glow plugs and ream the hole every time.
Merchant Automotive Glow Plug Reamer (01-Current)

Connectors - James nailed it. They eventually work loose and will make for a real bad day. I've used both Fish and Fleece without issues or comebacks.

My observation has been that the L5P is a lot more picky about what it will flag as a "bad" glow plug. There are 4 or 5 different fault code descriptions, compared to 1 or 2 on older trucks. But it's probably also a sign of the decline in quality that seems to affect just about everything, sadly.

The L5P glow plug is designed to heat up much faster and be hotter than the old g9 plugs. They changed the tip material and added porcelain. That porcelain likes to break when its got carbon packed around it

The design change was due to far better cold starts and making it far more “gas like” meaning you hit the button and key right away and it wants to fire up. Next to no glow plug heat time needed
