Just curious if anyone is running this turbo on a Duramax cause I've found several Cummins guys runnig it lately with good results. Cant find what size exh housing there running though. Would it make an alright DD/Track turbo with the right housing? Its avaliable with 1.01 and 1.15 housings and the other two sizes I feel would be to large. this is future planning and i know itll be awhile before it happens but any info or suggestions on a good single would be appreciated fellas. :thumb:

Thats what I had in mind to do. I'd like to stick to a big single for simplicity but worried it might be giving up some DD ability

It's a 80mm it's not going to spool nowhere near a stock charger. When it's spooled traction will be an issue. I'm running the gtx4202 as a small one in a compound setup. Hope to have it running soon.

I could live with that. I know nothings going to spool as quick as stock but a tighter exh housing should help. EGTs may become an issue if to tight though. What are you using for the atmospheric and what numbers are you shooting for?

Are you dead set on a gtx4508?

You can have a borg s480, billet wheel and everything setup similarly to the gtx for half the price of a gtx.

The GTX has been in my head awhile and I know the borg s480 is used in lots of different kits but ive herd good and bad about them. I plan on it being a one time buy so the price doesnt bother me that much. I feel sticking with a Garrett is a safe bet cause i truly believe you get what you pay for and if it needs rebuilding my coworker can do it no problem.

If you can get the parts. I wouldn't plan on that as a reason for buying one.

I personally wouldn't go with anything but a Garrett if I was gonna go that big as a single. The dual ball bearing is really noticeable when you run a big single as a daily driver.

A member on here (cafryer) switched his race truck from journal bearing turbos to GTX ones (twin application) and was saying how much better they spooled. Maybe he will chime in and explain

Ask any big tractor puller that has been doing it for a while and they will tell you that the ball bearing turbos are a lot easier to spool and allow you to run a little bigger turbo

Gtx wheels will be fairly quiet because they are usually 11 blade. The reason those gt5541r's are so awesome sounding is because of the huge 6 blade wheel.

I like the sounds of that! I still am curious which exh housing would work best on this turbo for DD/race purposes cause I use my truck for work and would like the ability to still pull trailers without crazy EGTs. Appreciate all the info guys!
