So I think I might be purchasing my bosses lease trade-in 2014 F150 with the ecoboost. Anyone know much about these? Tuning options, especially for mileage improvement more than power. who to use & who on to avoid?

I had a 15 and loved it. Once I got it tuned it was an animal. I used mpt down here in central fl. Fuel mileage wasn't great but I drove it pretty spirited. Pretty much have to run 93 octane with any kind of performance tune. Only reason I got rid of mine was it didn't have the weight to stop and steer a heavy gooseneck.

Biggest issue is carbon buildup in intake and oil in cac. Other than that it's a pretty slick half ton. I'd throw a borescope down and see how it looks and def get a catch can.

They move tuned, closer To a diesel 1/4 than any other stock-ish truck

I looked at buying a 16 3.5 a few months ago and almost pulled the trigger. If it would of not been for the dealer screwing me I would of had it over my 15 denali but not by choice. My buddy has a 14 and loves it. He says its the closest to a diesel feel you can get for being a gasser. Mpg can be pretty ok for what it is but I will say these trucks will flat out get. Few videos of just tuned trucks running in the high 12s!

It is a 3.5L. Has 100K miles. I wish I could just delete/block off the EGR system. Is that not an option to keep from recirculating back throw the intake?

On compd one guy mentioned issues with the timing chain (and I'm reading phasers as well). So I searched that a little last night. And like anything, you're going to read a lot more bad on forums than good about any truck because that's why people turn to the forums - to get help on fixing an issue. Anyone know how much of any issue the timing chains are? This truck was maintained well and checks out perfect.

And it being really quiet is

I drove it all weekend going places I normally go and drove how I normally drive and got 17.3 mpg. That's no better or worse than my duramax and a touch better than my wife's 100% stock LB7 duramax. This truck won't likely tow anything but me and my family around. If heavier duty towing is needed, I'll still have my wife's 2002 duramax. :thumb:

Timing chain has been an issue on all the v6-v8 fords since 02. A synthetic oil will reduce the guide and phaser wear but it's going to happen eventually, my father in law was using regular oil in my wife's 4.6 and it def wore everything out quick, started around 80k it has 180k now and it runs fine, it has lost a little power over the years and you can hear the chain a little.

It's cheap to fix but you have to dismantle everything.

3.5 is a runner. Exhaust and a tune and they are a monster.

Biggest thing is do 3-4K oul changes and use Ford filters. Don't run aftermarket shit on it.

My wife has the 3.5 ecoboost in her Explorer and it runs like a raped ape man.

They have plenty of power when not loaded, I was driving one a 3.5 2015 f150 from work I was coming with almost 2k lbs on the bed of the truck it was just my tool box reason I know the axact weight because I weight it before heading out from Colorado to south Texas, on flat roads will run great, going uphill could not keep up with speed limit, mileage sucked and had a misfire on cold mornings, and it was new I got it with 800 miles

We have sold dozens of them without one power train problem at all. Seem to be a great truck. Towing ~4k there is no comparison between a 5.3 and these. The torque comes on so low in the rpm band. Much more room in the cab than ram and especially Chev.
Runs sooo extremely well. No gear searching and abrupt kick downs when cruising in hilly country. I hate Ford's but I'd own one of these.

There's a few cops at my gym and they all have the ecoboost escapes. The one cop told me they top out at right under 150 mph. Them things gotta run.
