emissions testing

for me stock tune and passed with flying colors . but i am not required to have cat , my state only does a optic test to measure the particulate ( soot ) .
So even a truck with so many mods such as yours could pass
!? Wow, so If I delete my dpf and then get a PPE all I would have to do is set the tuner for stock and I would pass!? :rofl: I hope they don't check for DPF's/Cats every time...So even a truck with so many mods such as yours could pass
on a opacity test yes ( optic levels of soot ) , remember none of any of our mods except for egr deletes, cats removed and dpf's removed , will effect a emission test... other than larger injectors and such, but even those could be tuned back to a stock amount of fuel . more fuel is about all that will fail you and that is a strictly "tune" addition . larger and more turbo's will actually burn cleaner on stock tuning .
and i dont know if thats what the 2010 will be or if it actually sniffs it and measures nox and such . and i garentee you they will check for cats and dpf's ,the fine for shops not checking are huge and the health dept.'s have dummy under cover vehicles the send out all the time to test shops cheating . i work for the government as a mechanic , lead tech for salt lake county , and have set up cars to fail on purpose on these test cars . i am not a diesel specialist and have not kept track of the changes happening though . our heavy truck shop does all of our diesel work . my 01 is looking better all the time

I would imagine. They smogged my 02 here in Vegas 8 months ago, but they do the same here as they do where Trent is. Drive the truck on the rollers, run the truck up to 40mph or so and check what comes out.

I wish Cali wasn't so damn uptight with every damn vehicle rule they have...its ridiculous! Were lucky to even be able to drive now a days...pretty soon we'll be walking our asses or riding our bikes wherever we have to...

In PA diesels are emissions exempt...my county only has a visual inspection on gas vehicles also, the more populated ones have "sniff" tests.
Most of the diesel testing will be for trucks with DPF and newer,Most 07 classic and older sound not be tested.They do not test even gassers that are over 8,600 gvw here in MD.
I've had to get my cat and EGR equipped 6.5 "e-checked" since I bought it. The inspection is an opacity test on the rollers and a visual inspection of equipment. My EGR blocker plate is not visible and my gutted cat sits happily under there with the front pipe running right through it.
When the 6.6's time comes to finally get checked (I think after 4 years from new) I plan to buy a small SS "fart can" muffler and hog it out so the 4" front pipe on the d-max can pass through it too.
Funny thing is they only open the hood and put the mirror under the truck on about 50% of my tests. And, I always return 0 % opacity even with the Kennedy chip in the stupid thing...Basically if the equipment looks like it is there, all of these trucks will pass the opacity test with ease on a stockish tune...

Same here. Visual test for kitty, EGR, etc. and an opacity test. Funny thing is, first year I ran stock (put the kitty back on the whole 9 yards) and passed, second year I ran with a Predator on 65, gutted kitty (front pipe runs through it) and passed with better results than stock. Last year I ran custom EFILive tune of my own making and showed zero on my particulates!
So as long as you can fool the visual inspections, (gutted kitty, no tab on your egr blocker, pcv re-route hidden) you should be able to simply re-tune once a year (if you're running a really smoky tune) pass your particulate test and carry on with another year.
