Working on cleaning up the block deck, does this surface look ok? I can slightly feel the fire ring groove in the foreground with my fingernail but can't hook it.

Use a straight sand block and use some 1500 to 2000 grits to clean up then wipe down with some brake clean just before installing gaskets and you should be fine.

TX of course
Another question about this. I watch a vid about a shop recamends taking 80gr to the deck, but GM says only 600gr. After a little 320gr and a bit of 600gr there ain’t not way I’m getting these marks out this way.

you wont get the dents out without decking the block. you cleaned that thing up well enough you are good to go. a machinist straight edge with feeler gauges would be good to verify you dont have any bad warpage but its generally never enough to cause issues (there will be some variation if you actually check).
