Does anyone have any facts regarding filtration over time as the filter traps more and more particles?

I have heard that filters ( in general ) will actually trap more over time as the trapped particles actually help to trap other particles. Not sure if this applies to fuel filters or not.

They do trap more and finer particles as they plug up but there becomes a point when they restrict fuel flow enough to cause a power loss... You want a filter that has the lowest "Absolute" micron rating. Meaning the filter will trap most of the particles at the micron rating listed on the filter. Some filters are not rated absolute so they have to run for a while and plug up to reach the micron rating... Caterpillars filters are all rated absolute.
