Allison 5sp: Dipstick question

Is there a difference in length of the dipstick between an 05 5speed and an 06 6speed?
I have been fighting trans temps and fluid out of the vent on a trans I just rebuilt with one of Evan's kits. There is a 6 inch difference between the two sticks. The trans is finally holding normal temps while towing 8-10k when reading correct on the 06 dipstick.

I did a search for dipsticks at merchant automotive and answered my question. I wonder how long this thing has had the wrong dipstick in it...

It looks like an older 4l60 dipstick, and I questioned it before but would have never imagined it would have been swapped out.
