Gonna install a deep pan & filter kit, is the deep pan filter lock a necessity or just cheap insurance?

For me a necessity, the deep filter didn't have a super tight fit into the bore like the shallow one. Plus for how cheap they are it just doesn't make sense not to put one in while the pans off.
