You can use the head studs 4 times then they are garbage

You can most definitely reuse the head studs, the whole point is ARP's aren't torque to yield.

Well, this ordeal is almost over...
Due to the damages I found on this used engine I will be granted a full refund. While my time won't be recovered (monetarily speaking) I gained more than I lost. I feel like this was an invaluable experience and I am thankful that there was a reason for me to receive a refund

I got the junkyard dog back together today (I had two pistons out this morning) and it will be picked up by the seller either tomorrow night or Wednesday morning.
With my refund I think I'm gonna be sending my block to SoCal for some massaging and to balance the rotating assembly, I've got a parts list all lined out with a buddy of mine and we've made a goal to stay under 10k for the whole thing (including a new turbo )
I'll be assembling it

Pretty sure I'll assemble the shortblock myself...saves money and time that way
Parts list is pretty standard for a D-max build around here...my build is ever changing so it's hard to say what it will wind up being
For now it's carrillos, Clevite, ARP, stock heads and cam and Mahle race cast. If I get a bump in funds I'll get the block machined for the seal ring, go with an AF cam, ovals and stg 1 heads.

Basic disassembly cleaning, hot tank and machining, crank check, new cam bearings installed and rotating assembly balanced was something like 2100-2300...?
Shortblock assembly added like $1000 IIRC, give or take. I wanna say to have a complete shortblock shipped back to me was $3500. MINUS THE PARTS OF CORSE!!!
I can't read the quotes they sent to my email cuz they use adobe format and it would seem like my apple devise(s) aren't compatible, least I can't get the app to download...

IIRC, They balance it on a separate machine and have to disassemble it to install the parts anyways, I'd imagine they'd leave the pistons and rods connected tho

I was told they can balance the rotating assembly if you sent them just one piston? Which seems weird but that's what I was told.
Really doesn't seem to bad for the cleaning and machining, but for assembly it seemed a little much... And if you decide to have them assemble it you gotta get in line, even a shortblock is a several week wait.
After going through the used engine I just tore down and put back together, I see no reason for me to pay and wait for SoCal to do it!
I had two pistons out of that engine yesterday morning at 10am, it was complete right down to the EGR and engine cover bolt by 8pm
I even took the time and learned how to set the valve lash!
You would need to static balance your pistons first. Weigh them all pick the lightest one and make the rest weigh the same. The same is done with the rods only they are done end for end where each end of each rod are made to weigh the same. Once all the individual parts rods, pins and pistons with fitted rings are matched they use the weight of one rod and piston assembly to make up bob weights used on the crank with balancer and fly wheel or flex plate to dynamically balance the crank.
BTW there are special fixtures to hold the rod for weighing each individual end.
