it depends on the kingpin, if they have the extending hitch on the front and not the drop down then you can. Ive pulled plenty of fifthwheels with the short bed. It would make it nicer but plenty do it without one.

X2. Some people who have a sliding hitch have never needed it but there might be that situation one day that you might need it.

I've got a slider and have never needed it. I've got a heartland sundance and it has contours on the edges of the front. This allows use of a shortbed without ever getting close to the cab

Anybody with a swb pull a 5th wheel with a tool box in the bed?

I dont have a toolbox and i dont believe there would be room unless it didn't come above box rails, then you'd be ok

If you get the B&W turnoverball and companion hitch you only have a small round piece of metal flush with your bed when it's removed....they also make a companion slider to help when maneuvers make a short bed tight......

Nice Rides and Nice Trailers, makes me look like I'm Towin' a shoe box. Starting to look at a Mountaineer though, should compliment it nicely.

Another question. Does having the fifth wheel in the bed kinda ruin your chances for using your box when you are not pulling or is it fairly easy to take out?

Just bought a 39 ft 5ver.Was concerned about bed space too.4 pin bolts to remove like a hitch and pulls right out of. Just 2 rails stay.

not unless you get a superglide, 4 holes flush with the bed, but that sucker is heavy, takes about 1 minute to remove with a hoist
