I have a 2022 l5p 3500,with no transmissions problems yet,I want to do a preventive break down fix myself ,I was under the assumption the next gen vb kit for 1500.00 was the fix! From what iv read from post in 2025 the next gen kit wasnt doing so great? can anyone confirm please! Also iv read bad stuff on this Dmitry guy and people on face book says he is the man! Also i have tcm tune from vse if that matters,I cant believe Gm has a true fix(only a bandaid) like always. IF anybody can shed light on this would be great!

I've used DHD for all of ours here at the shop, none of them have given us any issue and they've all driven great afterwards. If your VB is super worn out you may have to buy the billet section but I don't think you'd need it given that your truck has no issues.

I've seen too many issues with the Next Gen kits.

thank you bdsankey, im totally clueless, this truck has only 24k miles, i was under the impression i had to buy the nextgen kit for 1500.00 or put a suncoast valve body, to fix the gm recall correctly! where do i get the DHD that you use sir!

The high and low limit valves are the issue. The low limit being the main. Sonnex sells repairs for those and properly fixes it. Bout the cheapest/easiest way to fix it.

There are kits and vb’s that eliminate the low and high limit valves. Problem is, its going to put more wear on the vb and trans doing that. Will it work and last? No one knows yet

thank you for your advice! im clueless and trying to figure out what to buy, i was curious about that dimitrey dude, no body is touching my trans but me, unless in future it need a total rebuild, i didnt relize the next gen wasnt a good fix, im not worried about the money if anything can make it bullet proof as possible without a rebuild, im assuming the suncoast valve body is a waste of money to keep this trans alive long as possible.. thank you for you time, and if you have more advice i appreciate it

See my links after your last reply.

Is that Next Gen?
Yes/no, Dmitri has worked with them to develop it and uses them in his builds.

Any of the modified valvebodies (SunCoast, DHD, NextGen etc) are complete and ready to drop in. DHD offers a service where you send in your VB > they modify it > you reinstall. This is the route I like to go as most customers do not have the ability to vacuum test their own VB at home.

You can purchase their products (or SunCoast) through us or through the respective company, we are authorized dealers for both.

No such thing as bullet proof with this trans, sadly. Its nothing like the old true allison 6 speeds.

Me being me and knowing they are continuously updating and upgrading parts for the 10 speed, I’d start with the simple/cheap fix of the sonnex valves. While your there, throw in a ratiotek vb kit (dont do the high hp one) and drive it. The sonnex kit takes away the worry about vacuum testing due to the design but it never hurts to verify. If you have no issues so far, you are in an even better spot.

I wish dnj would have left the low and high limit feed valves in place but they didnt. There is a good potential that will shift problem areas elsewhere

I am not an employee of DHD, I am an independent shop owner who is one of the few sponsors on this webpage.

My phone number is listed in my signature, please feel to call/text! Text is preferred as it's harder to ignore it haha.

It helps control pressure to the clutches as gm went away from the latch style valves. Keeps pressure within a specific range to make sure shifts are done accurately and smoothly.

James what is your reasoning to not use the RatioTek A10L PRX kit? And does either of the ratiotek kits do anything to increase the pump pressure at the pump like a new PR spring?

Do you still run the Goerend converter?

Do you still run the Goerend converter?

The PRX kit will not shift nicely at part throttle. Younger made that clear to me after we did the regular kit r&d. At the time, there was no tcm tuning and there would have been no way to make it shift nicely (atleast to my standards) so i did not change it. Mike also agreed that until they came out with tcm tuning, better clutches and a way to get the E clutch to hold more, it wont hold up to what i wanted to do.

We did not up pump pressure, we upped pressures to the clutches by 20-30psi through the vb. Running stock clutches and the way this vb is designed, upping pump pressure wouldnt do much. Not sure if the prx kit does

No, im on the stock converter. The goerend one throws injector timing codes due to the 15lbs of added mass on the flex plate and the truck cannot run its injector timing tests correctly due to it. So it sets codes and makes the truck a little noisier because of it.

Thank you for sharing your firsthand experience with this stuff with us. I have a 24 and would like to do something to the valve body and maybe the pump before adding anymore power to the engine. TCM tuning for sure but wanted to do a little more to help it out

What do you think would be a good combination of high quality parts that really work in the real world?

You mentioned the unknowns of running the DNJ billet VB 1/2 are still out for jury?

Run a quality transmission tune and a VB with parts added like James mentioned or send it to someone to be modified.

Leave the converter alone at this time unless you're trying to make more power than what the stock trans can hold.

The D&J channel plate is less than a month old, you won't see any real-world impact for likely 6mo+ so nobody can give you a prediction of what they will do unfortunately.

Dmitri has been using VBs without limit valves (he plugs them) for awhile but I don't know how many units he has out there nor do I know what his potential failure rate is as I don't do a ton of business with him.
