Brothers sells entirely new short bed kits. Not the cheapest way but all new metal. Hot rod garage just did an episode on this very topic. They had less money in the truck going this way than trying to find a true shortbed.

Can't wait to see more updates from your build!

Cut one down in the end it's still a long bed on the title you are only lying to yourself

Brothers and LMC make a lot of cheap Chinese stuff these days I'll only buy from classicparts.com, they only do Chevy and their sheet metal is USA made.

Been almost a year since I updated this so I have some pictures to dump.

After cleaning up the frame once everything was stripped I went through and welded up every crossmember and bracket that was held on with rivets just for peace of mind nothing will ever come loose. My engine hoist is my rotisserie so I can get top and bottom welds done. It became a roller and the fuel cell got mounted. I welded some threaded pieces to the frame so I can pull the bolts through the bottom and the fuel cell drops right down. After setting the motor in to make sure it fit it was time to go back down to bare frame for paint.

I had some help from my uncle who was a paint and body guy for Roush racing. We took a DA and wire wheel and went to town for a day or 2 on the frame. Finally laid down some paint and it couldn't have looked better. Got it back into a roller again then started doing a small rebuild on the motor.

Motor is a 6.0 lq4 from a 2006 2500hd. It had 150k on it and sounded fine when I pulled it. I ended up doing a stage III truck cam from BTR, pushrods, springs, valve seals, melling high psi oil pump, cloyes timing chain, LS2 damper, ARP rod bolts, front and rear main seals, oil galley barbell, CTSV oil pan (for clearance) and all the other misc gaskets and seals. I didn't have a degree wheel so I had a paper cutout that was ghetto but got the job done for the crank pulley bolt.

The oil galley barbell is something I stumbled upon that was interesting. The factory gm oil galley barbell is a safety device that allows oil to bypass your filter in the event your filter became plugged. The factory one is a very loose fit which allows unfiltered oil to bypass the filter and get into the rotating assembly during normal operation. The billet one is a much tighter fit reducing the amount of unfiltered oil bypassing your filter. Cheap insurance imo.

Here is how it sits as of today. Coil packs are mounted onto some valve covers that will allow a SBC valve cover to go over the coils to hide them. Transmission just got stabbed into the truck along with the motor. We have a few big shop projects to get done so it'll be a month or 2 before I can get the cab and bed put on.
