4l80 4wd to 2wd

I read that you need to swap the output shaft and housing in order to run a 4wd 4l80 as a 2wd. Can anyone confirm this? Would I be better off trying to trade the 4wd for a 2wd trans instead of having it torn down and swapped? Is there anything else I should know before I try to do this? I'm taking a 6.0 with a 4l80 out of a 06 2500 to put in my c10.

Yes output and tailhousing can be swapped. Entire trans has to come apart for this. Also need a rear tone ring for the rear speed sensor to pickup. Some 4wd 4l80 have the rear ring already pressed onto the drum. Pull the plug out of the rear case and have a look. You can buy the rings and press it on as well. Assuming your keeping it electronic shift that is

Hmm ok thanks for the info. Might look at finding a 2wd donor vehicle instead of a 4wd at this point.
