3388AF vs 6480AF

I'm getting started with my broken crank rebuild and I don't want it to happen again. Definitely going alternate firing order but I am up in the air on what cam to choose. I will be putting pistons in the motor anyways, so valve reliefs are not a problem. I want to keep the smooth street manners but don;t want to leave a bunch of power on the table. Just figured I would see who is running what and how they like it??

Just to give an idea the truck has a Danville 72/TCT 83 twins, 100 overs, 2xcp3, and will be somewhere around 16:1 compression.

The 6480 worked great on the street in a LBZ with Danville 72 and 2 s366's. The truck was even used to tow 5000 pounds and it did just fine.

Thats the one I have and I talked to guy about it and he said no problem using the 6480 on the street and towing.

How much of a valve relief are you looking at for a 6480

I have the 6480 in mine, spools really smooth. I'm running bigger compounds the the average guy so there is a little lag there but not much. I do drive it every chance I get, Even in Washington DC. We did shallow reliefs in mine, I don't recall the number maybe Dustin will see this and chime in. He has ran all of the SoCal cams in his or one of his customers trucks and would be able to give some feedback.

It still made good power down low. You could roll out from a stop light ease into it and go sideways effortlessly.

Def 6480, it pushed the power a little higher on my set up.

I would listen to Mark. I ran the reg 3388 cam in my truck with the DP 72vgt over a DP 483 and loved it on the street. The truck made over 1100rwhp and ran a 9.2 in the 1/4 mile but was rpm limited because of the can size.
