I’m building an engine for my 2004.5 Chevy LLY. I need some recommendations on some things. Currently I’m putting together a parts list and don’t know what crankshaft and connecting rods to use. Currently plan on using MAHLE motorsports forged race pistons and SoCal diesel CNC stage 2 ported heads. I’m wanting to use S&S diesel Motorsport 300% over injectors. That’s really all I have on my list as I do more research. This is going to be a backyard build. I’m currently 16 and I’ve been saving up. I’m pulling the engine from my parts truck and going to start on the build here soon. However price is not a problem just want to know what’s best. Thanks!!

LML block, SoCal narrow journal crank, Carrillo rods, fingers cast pistons. Be prepared to spend $50k for the engine and supporting mods. And make sure you have another $50k sitting in your bank you can lite on fire incase something in the motor fails.

What is your usage overall?

--Engine--
1) LML block w/o-rings
2) Callies compstar crank
3) SoCal rods
4) Fingers oval bowl pistons, skip forged on any street truck IMO
5) SoCal billet mains
6) SoCal girdle
7) ARP 625 head studs
8) SoCal billet flexplate
9) DHD pinned/shimmed oil pump
10) DHD water pump
11) SoCal stage 2 heads
12) SoCal or Manton/XDP pushrods
13) ARP/Merchant rocker shaft bolts
14) 20+ oil cooler
15) DHD or ProFab up-pipes/manifolds
16) ARP everywhere
17) SoCal 6480AF cam

--Fuel--
1) Dynomite oval bowl 200-250% injectors (I've got a great program on these and flowsheet for your needs), Exergy is another great second option but they do not have an oval bowl profile.
2) Single Exergy 14mm pump
3) AirDog 5g 220gph

--Transmission--
Billet unit with a converter spec'd around your turbo/elevation/usage

--Air--
1) DPC S400 kit w/gate
2) 7982G from Pulsar
3) Nitrous

I would be using it as a street truck. Thoughts on compound turbo kit?

Personally compounds would be my "go to" for a 1200whp street truck that wants to still do minor towing.

A single turbo setup will always be easier on the bottom end simply due to how they bring in power. In my personal opinion the 900-1000whp single S400 or G series truck is the most fun I've ever had. Things stay together well with quality tuning and parts, they're responsive, and just a blast to mess with sports cars daily.

For a 1200whp truck I would look at a 68R/485 or 488, 369/488, 467/488, 6775G/488, 6782G/488 or a 6782G/88mm GT55.

The VGT/S400 and S300/S400 kits are readily available, the G/G series kits are not off the shelf and would have to be built to order by a vendor. I've done this in the past so it's not difficult to accomplish.
