What are you guys getting for transmission temps on your 10l1000s? Mine lately at times will get over 160f just sitting in a drive through getting a coffee with my foot on the brake for a few minutes other times not. Before I never really seen above 143f.

Looking to see what anyone is seeing unloaded normal driving conditions

These 10L1000 transmissions are no longer an Allison. They are basically the Ford/GM 10R/L90 with a few larger internals. Function is identical, and same controllers. The 10L temps do typically run cooler, and contains the sensor and thermostat tucked up in the valvebody. I'm also going with thermostat in the body.

I wouldn't sweat 160F oil temps setting with foot on brake. Be more interested in highway driving. GM is replacing all of the 10L valve bodies quick as they can get em. Ford doesn't seem to have these issues, and only major differences between them is the valebody. So I would check the recall list, and if temp is the only issues currently, get on the list for new body.

Im not worried about the temp for being too hot, just a little unnerving seeing it easily getting higher considering the last 2 years it always stayed 143f tops.

Another issue I had lately was the torque converter would never really lock under heavier throttle. Before it would lockup and accelerate great but it was a revving junk pile. Seems to have come back somewhat to normal now.

Not sure how I can convince my dealer to replace it under warranty and am seriously considered buying and updated VB myself.

I brought the temp concerns up last time i was there and they tried telling me these are normal temps which from what I've seen and everyone else says its not.

I feel like the gm platinum protection warranty is bought with the truck brand new is total waste of money if they only replace parts when I'm broke down completely

While driving down hiway used be always 143f. Now it can range from 143f to 165f . Never has a steady temp it'll stay at really now.

I was thinking that but how would I go about fixing it while retaining warranty?

Since you have a converter lock up issue to, i think you got more than one issue. The tc lock up issue should be something gm takes care of

Not sure when they changed it, but these 10L's don't always run in Lock Up.. The TCM uses a "Controlled Slip" values for the converter now. Once above 5th, they will normally go to full lock, but may drop to controlled slip, or unlocked upon shifts, or based on driver mode selection.

I don't have any direct experience with the 1000's, but to date I have stuck six 10L's behind things they were never intended. Including a 4BT. Have a 10L bench harness with valve body on my desk for past 9 months. Spend most of my days reviewing Raw GMLAN data that the car and trucks speak in the background, above the OBD2 layer. Is where I caught these new Transitioning and Controlled Slip values being spoken.

I think you're on the right path, and concerns valid. What you are seeing should be covered with the new valve body. Just getting in line to have replaced seems to be the issue now. The main issues they are chasing is the sticking or leaking valves, which can cause them to engage the wrong clutches on a downshift. Several kits on the market now that claim to fix these issues and others. No real world data out there on that option yet.controlled-slip.jpg

The 10l will go into lock up in 3rd or 4th iirc when in normal mode. Its not a controlled slip once commanded though, it will slip into lock up. I would have had issued with the triple disc i ran in my 2020 if continuous controlled slip was the case.

Getting the vb replaced for this issue is iffy. It doesnt follow the tsb or problems so the dealer may or may not toss a vb at it.

If you can get the trans to do it continuously with a trailer on it, I’d take a dealer tech for a ride with ya. They are going to need to see/feel it and watch scan data.

Appreciate the insight guys. Guess I'll just drive it until the issues get to a point the dealer will warranty it, good thing I have plenty left.

This controlled slip seems like a terrible idea I cant see why its needed but im not an engineer.
