I'm having a hard time trying to decide on what converter to run with with 66/83 twins I feel the 2300 rpm stall could be pushed to spool my setup no issue but I have a 2500 stall unit now, but with the 1053-1 2800 stall I worry would be to much converter for the setup?

The current converter I don't think is holding well as it could imo so like to get into a better one.

id do the 2500 stall jake. long as the converter couples better than what you have now, you will love it.

Why don't you try it first before you spend money?

Try what?

Maybe I worded that poorly the converter I currently have is around a 2500 stall was built by itw. Not a fan of it really.

I'm guessing I'll just go 1053-1 2800 stall and have more converter then I need and deal with the daily driving habits.

I've thought about using Evans converter as well but it's a spendy unit. Not that it's a bad thing just don't want to throw much more money at it

A 1055 will work well for your setup. They have a alternate 1055-1 that's a little looser aka flash. There are three items to consider, Stall, flash and coupling habits . Most only consider stall. Flash and coupling are more important when you daily drive the truck. I beleive the 1078 may be too tight for your compounds from what I have seen. Tuning does play a role in those habits to a point. I have a 66/480 setup that I tune that is near perfect with the 1055. I run a 1055-1 with my triples and it works pretty good but would be better with a 1053-1. It just wouldn't be as nice driving. So deciding if the starting line is more important the the rest of the equation is what you should consider most .

Thanks for the info I want it to drive nice but I do want to be competitive at the drag strip and not have issues spooling it especially were I live at 4500' lol

I guess I need to figure out what I'd like best. The 1055 stalls to 2500 looks like which would keep me where I'm at which would be perfect. Do you think the 1053-1 would be way to much converter for me?

It is intended to be for racing. Now everyone's opinion of too much is subjective. I like good driving manners when I drive more than race. If you want the best performance then the 1053-1 will get you what you are looking for.

I just threw in the 1053-2 in mine. It spools fantastically for launches, however it is a bit loose for daily driving. I don't mind, and iirc it stalls a little higher than the 1053-1

Well I think the 1055 is going to be a good fit truck drives nice on the street and the converter seemed to do well at the track Friday night.

Was running the 11.90 class and shows up late and decided to try tune 3 out in the first Rd I left a little softer then I wanted still spun netted a 1.8 60 and bout the 1000' mark I let off, I felt I was going way to fast and the guy I was racing was way behind. Hit the brake as I was about to cross got to the shack to get my slip and was shocked to see I ran a 11.77 @ 104. 1/8 was 7.5 at 96.38 so that tune has a mid 11 pretty easy I think especially if I can get my 60 down.

I didn't notice the guy I was racing red lite so I won even though I broke out. Had I know he did I'd run it wot the whole way down lol!

Next Rd I broke out again with a 11.74 @ 108. Other broke out to but not as bad so only got 2 passes in going to try and make it back in the next month or maybe go to billings races

I have the 1053-1 and its drive around town great. No complaints and it stalls up in the 2500 initially till boost comes on that I can get it to go over 3k but shit really wants to start moving in 4wd and I back off. Just did a couple years to make sure it was stalking better than the ATS I had
