Hey everyone. I am planning on purchasing SC III in a couple of months. I know this subject is beaten to death, but...based on actual driving and testing which is better for 500rwhp daily driver w/ some weekend beating. Suncoast recommended the 1056 to me, but it seems in all the forums everyone loves the 1057. How much of a performance difference is there? Can I run econo tunes with the 1057 and still maintain some driveability?

I appreciate any response. Thanks.

You lose no drivability with the 1057. There is about a 200 rpm lower stall with the 1057 over the 1056 and it multiplies less torque than the 1056. The 1057 is the most efficient converter made for the Duramax as it couples 50 feet out of the hole ( from a dead stop ). If you're running any kind of power in your truck, the 1057 is the most fun converter you can run on the street. The 1057 was developed as a project by me, Pat, and Joe Webb from Suncoast on Casper.

If my suncoast was installed summer before last, what is the most likely converter installed? 1050. 1056 or 1057

When you say it couples 50' out of the hole, do you mean it locks? Mine doesn't lock until the end of 2nd gear. Not sure if this is the case for others but in normal driving, when my 1057 T/C locks, it feels as if someone rear-ended me. Great for racing, but a little annoying for normal driving.

Coupling has nothing to do with the converter clutch locking. That is controled by TCM and ECM. When a converter couples the pump section and the turbine are almost turning at the same speed and the converter is slipping much less which means it is not multiplying any more toque and has become very efficient like a stick shift.

I got a 1056 based on the fact that I do a good amount of trailering and I operate at altitudes 3000-8,000 feet so spool-up and getting my load moving were a priority over a quick coupling converter.

1057 probably would work just fine for me too and might have been a bit more fun hotrodding around the street but I am very happy with my choice.
I ended up putting the extra 200 clams toward the x-fer case brace and Mike's cooler instead.
