tips and tricks for harmonic balancer swap and water pump replacement

So I have been looking over old threads and have a decent grasp on some of the things I'll be against for this job. What are guys using now days for install tools? I plan on getting an ATI balancer. I've put these on race engines (non diesel) in the past and we always used a dead blow hammer to...

    Trying to locate a vibration

Josh, u think you're correct with the balance rates jumping around causing the vibration. I narrowed it down to "something " within the tuning. I figured it was me doing something that ultimately pissed the ecm off. I made sure I'm following stock torque values for the pedal, same with fuel...

    Trying to locate vibration

I'm trying to nail down a vibration.. happens between 1550-1650 rpms at a light load. Flat road, it won't do it, but a slight hill it'll shake. I thought maybe ut was tune related, and for the life of me can't get it to go away. When it happens my logs show mm3 bouncing from 20-35mm3. I can't...

    Trying to locate a vibration

I crawled under the truck and everything is tight. My trans mount moves quite a but, so I'm replacing it. I did notice during the shake, balance rates do jump around, but from say +2mm3 to -1mm3. Not a ton of movement but maybe it doesn't take much. Trying an old known good tune file, and will...

    Trying to locate a vibration

I've honed in on a new vibration. The signs are making me question the trans. Here are the details: -built trans with alot of miles. Around 170k on build, 270k overall on hard parts -i make around 670hp at the tires and the trans holds it just fine, tho I rarely use even 500hp.. -the vibration...

Does an Lml rear seat fit into an LMM?

My dog destroyed my rear seat. I'm curious if a rear seat from a 2011 would bolt into my 2008??

    Over fueling

If you want better spool to launch harder, reduce timing. I reduced timing alot, from 8deg to 0-2deg in my spooling area and it helped alot. 2deg change won't be too noticeable.

    Over fueling

As dozerboy said, table B0795 can help alot. I've found if you can get it kind of close with that table, it helps to further the improvements by adjusting your maf scaling a bit where it's needed. I've found that B0795 can't fix everything in regards to limiting fuel vs air. Small adjustments by...

Lb7 with a lbz fuel pressure regulator

Best thing you can do is research research research! This site has alot of good info in years 2007-2010ish. After that info started to get hard to find from the pros. I learned ALOT by doing just that. No one will sell you a tune to build from. Good luck and have fun!

    Time for head gaskets???

Mine was 2grand for labor. The guy pulled the cab to do the job. I have a friend who builds race engines. He let me pressure test them, and surfaced them for me for free. So anyways, you'd have that'd cost ontop. Each gasket is up to $100ea depending on what you get. I also bought a gasket kit...

    Crankshaft Question

So I've read alot about used cranks checking out good, using them in a rebuild, and not long after break. My mind says that the steel has been fatigued in a certain matter. It's used to the beating it sees with stock balancing etc. It mags out good, gets used in a rebuild that gets internally...

    LML Turbo suggestions needed.

If I had my choice a 62/68sxe gated, paired with an s480 would be a fun setup imo. I went from a Danville 3794 vgt to an s369sxe, only to try a 68mm stg2r and go right back to the fixed vane. If you have the money, go fixed vane imo. It's worth it.

    LML Turbo suggestions needed.

I went away from a Danville vgt, and have zero regrets. Fixed vanes free up alot of drive pressure.

    LLY Tuning - Built Engine/Compounds

I dont believe it's much of an issue with the LLY, but the LBZ and especially the LMM like to downshift if you get too aggressive with MAF limiting with bigger chargers.

    Mangled glow plug removal

Soak with penetrating oil for a 2weeks of normal driving and then try welding a nut to it. Ive had this issue and it frees them right up. I'm in MN, so everything gets pretty nasty here. Patience is your friend.

Compatible Exhaust Housings for VGT Turbo

Drive pressure will be fairly high compared to a fixed vane. A gated fixed vane would be ideal. I experimented with a 68stg2r and found on a 500hp tune, the vgt had nearly 20psi more drive pressure than my s369sxe making the same boost pressure. Plus the fixed vane was 1:1 until rpms crept past...

Valley turbo upgrade - compounds - built engine

I'm curious why more guys don't install a smaller sized gated fixed vane in the valley? I just put on a 68mm stg2r a few days ago and it's very interesting seeing the difference in drive pressure vs boost at all stages (comparing s300sxe vs 68mm stg2r). The stg2r so far is between 1.5:1 to 2:1...

Looking for a low power tune 08 LMM

Why in the world build a project utilizing a duramax, and not make damn sure everything will jive, to the point you want a less than stock tune?? My God throw a 350 in there instead..
