Direct message transfer to forum/thread

Occasionally I get people asking me questions about tuning, electronics, or otherwise. Not typically something that needs to be private. Would be nice if there was a method, at least for moderators, to be able to move it to another thread like we can for normal threads

Is this possible?

What it sounds like to me is something along the lines of someone sending a pm, the contents of which aren't really private and would make a decent public thread, with an option to "convert to public thread' or something like that.

Yes. Guilty of the like. I messaged Jason about a tuning question in pm’s and he helped me out. Only problem I see is it would have to be extended to everyone and not just moderators. I’m sure lots of people get asked questions about things that could be threads and not just mods.

......or you could just ask the person who PM'd you to create a thread in the appropriate section, or let them know you're going to copy-and-paste the PM in a new thread of your own. Thats what I usually do.

I've done this. But sometimes it grows and you start to realize that this should be public as it's good content with nothing truly private about it. But keeping the thread by copy/paste isn't as practical if you want to keep the users the same.

Unfortunately due to privacy reasons of a pm/dm, you cant just make it public. Least not by me allowing a simple push of a button or quick setup to make public. That can bring bad implications on me/the site.

Other partys consent needs to be given prior and then just going to need to start a thread and do some copy/paste.

Understand. I was hoping for a move thread or post option like we have for regular threads. But of privacy is a concern, I understand.

Sounds like an enhancement the forum software could consider adding.... Add a button to copy the private thread public, but when one user selects that, everyone else in the thread gets a message asking if they approve of making it public or not. One 'no' answer and it won't be done.
