Glow plug question

When I bought my truck the check engine light was on so I took it to my local O'Reilys and had them scan it. Turns out glow plug in #6 was bad and needed changed. I haven't changed it and it took about 20-30 secs for light to go off, but since weather got really cold I put some Stenadyne in the last two tanks and now it takes about 5 secs for light to go off but check engine light is still on.

Do I still need to change glow plugs and should I change all 8?

Is the check engine light on? And no sense changing all 8 if 7 of them are working fine just change the bad one.

If you haven't fixed the glow plug then the check engine light will still stay on. Replace it and get the code cleared.

Just FYI number six glow plug is the third one back on the drivers side.

Yes the check engine light is on but it also had another code but can't remember what that was. May swing by and have them scan it again.

I know the light will stay on until I change it, I'm just confused as to why my wait to start light was staying on for a longer time when it was a little warmer and now that it is cold it doesn't stay on more than 5 seconds.

Also how hard are they to change? I've seen some posts where people have broke them off and then you have to remove the head to drill and tap. Should I take it and have it done or is it something someone with a little car knowledge can handle?

The light acts goofy when you have a bad one.

They are easy to change, but do break sometimes. If you break it mostlikely a shop would of too. Just hit good with some PB blaster for a few days before you change it. Put some anti seize on the new one.

Just change the one. I have 3 that are origanal on my truck. When the first one went out in 09. That would of been a wast of money to change them all back then.
Might not be a bad idea to pull them all on that side that will come out easy and put some anti seize on all of them.

Sounds like a good plan to just change what I need.

AC Delco or ???

You could go with ac delco but Bosch would b best quality/longevity if u don't mind spending a little more.

ACDelco plugs in a pretty Bosch box, you can purchase the ACDelco's "Made in Germany" at Oreillys....

You can get them at Rockauto for $4.00 more per plug if you want, sent them back and bought ACDelco's from Oreillys (for less) with a 1 year 12,000 mile warranty and no shipping if one went bad....

I actually got my last glow plug from O'rileys but it was a cheap autolite.. Lol bout tired of changing them.

I think Beru makes them for ac delco. That what I got years ago and they have been great. $16 each IIRC
