there is nothing insulting about Toms post. its a down to earth post with no sugar coating on top. the problem is how your going about handling it. Sit back and think about what we have all told you and what he is telling you. your looking at sponsorships on parts, that means you want discounted/free parts if you can get them to help your build doesnt it? You may very well do better at getting sponsors than others even where your at but dont get upset when someone comes in and gives their opinion on a very opinionated thread on how to go about getting sponsors. there is many different ways to skin a cat. your trying to add tone to text and taking text to heart when the fact is, if you had heard if from his mouth and the way it may been articulated it, you would be more understanding of the statement. Not everything out there is exactly what you want to hear but not everything out there is 100% correct either. In the end, you need to make your decision on how you want to go about this and attack it/strive for that finished goal.
That may be man and I apologized ahead of time and my response was soaked in other things I'm dealing with right now. Bottom line is a handout and a sponsor are 2 diff things and I don't "need" either one to do my build. I will get er done sooner or later, I'm already collecting some parts. This got out of hand fast and if Tom was indeed not insulting me then again I apologize and it has more to do with the other things in my life right now....

When it comes to sponsorship; both parties must bring a successfull track record to the table.
Not always, could be a new start up company looking for a test mule to run their turbo kit or something. You get heavily discounted parts on the risk that they may not fit well, and have to be sent back. Seen that done before.
But as stated above, there are many ways to define and get a sponser, and all of em are gonna be tough. :rofl:
Having a solid, proven setup and a built motor won't do squat IMO. Its not special anymore like it has been years past. You'll only get attention by pushing limits or trying something new. Built motors are becoming surprisingly common, hell even I have one and I'm a nobody.
It doesn't even have to be in racing. Hell 90% of "enthusiasts" don't even care about track times, its all about dyno numbers these days. Perfect example is Dmitri's Overkill and Katrina & the Industrial Group with Shaun Baca and Brett Williams. I definitely have tons of respect for their builds but how many people know what 1/4 mile times Baca and Brett have put down? Dmitri has yet to put down any decent times as far as i know. Now how many people know they have both put down 2000+hp on the dyno and that's the majority of what is promoted.
I sincerely wish you the best of luck finding a sponsor(s). But definitely listen to the experienced members here, alot of them have forgotten more than most of us will even know. IMO the real innovators are the guys doing something different, Russ @ RPM Motorsports, Brett's C10, Broviak, Jeff (Stingpuller) and his dragster, all the secret squirrel tech and setups used by sled pullers and legit drag racers, the guys transplanting diesels, hell even Mike (mikediesel) and Brian (hondarider552) with their unusually efficient setups.
Sadly there isn't much attention for a well rounded performance truck (unless your Lavon with Firepunk and daily drive a deck plated built motor or Brett w/ his C10 :rofl

I don't know what the hell happend to this country what's it coming to when you don't stand behind an individual who signed there life away and is willing to die for you....yet another issue I'm dealing with I feel like I've given up a part of myself for a ungrateful nation. I guess at the end of the day I know I've done something 1% of our population was crazy enough to do lol GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!! agreed. Hipp, regardless of what we are talking about for sponsorship and the heat that happened, thank you so much for your service. The fact we can type like this and form our opinions is all in thanks to guys like you who have served out country so we may continue on with our freedom. First off, thanks to those members who understood my post and the point I was trying to get across. None of it was an insult, it was simply the truth. As James said, I will not sugar-coat my thoughts or opinions. If they make someone feel guilty or angry, oh well.

FYI o/p , for the past 30 years Ive worked 50-60 hour weeks to provide my family a good home, raise two children, put both of them thru college and hopefully be able to enjoy the fruits of my labors in retirement in a few years. I would not and will not ever jeopardize any of our futures by spending too much building my truck, like so many members here and throughout the country have. As I said, just look in the Sale section and you'll understand what I mean. My truck (and my half ton) are a HOBBY, and I spend my time and money on them as I am able. Be on a budget and use your head. Buy your parts used. Do your own work.
As for "sponsors"....the more I thought about it, the more I realized I actually did get "sponsored" by some businesses during my quest to run low-12s in my truck back in 2009/10.
Eric Merchant at Merchant Auto did a LOT of work for and with me over the years. I guess he figured that me helping him at his shop and always saying positive things about my experiences with him was worth that.
Secondly, Nick @ DT wrote the "12.40" tune for me for a decent price, and I believe I repaid his kindness with the positive thread about that tune after I ran the number, and the business he got from that tune.
Thirdly, Rick @ Profab gave me a real good deal on my turbo mouthpiece, with the caveat that I help him with the install directions. I think he is still using them.
Fourth, Mark @ Danville did dyno testing and tuning on my truck for almost three hours one day, and cut me a hell of a deal. He wanted to see my truck run the number as much as I did, and was mystified as to how the hell I was doing it.
Fifth, this forum "sponsored" me during that time with their help and tips...all of which helped me reach the goals I set.
There MUST be a give-and-take when it comes to wanting "help" from others. You have to be willing to help others first, or have some skill/idea that can help them. You dont just go asking....
I never went looking for help, the help found me. Most of that was b/c of the relationships I had cultivated thru DP and DD, and also b/c some people wanted to help me reach my goal. (I think I still have the fastest stock turbo crew cab?) Plus, you had better show some sort of improvement as you go, and document everything and give credit where it is due. I always do that. But to all the people I listed above, and all the guys/gals here who helped me over the years, I cannot thank all of you enough. I am honored to be able to call you all friends.
As Pat used to say, "This forum has the fastest average MPH and ET" and "This forum has some of the smartest people in the industry". IMO, you should sit back, do a lot of reading, and learn before anything else. Going fast and getting noticed is a hell of a lot more than just throwing parts at your truck.
