Going to run DRW next season with STS's, and ditch these 33x14 boggers.. Most hooks here are very soft with only 2-3 decent surfaces. I'm able to pull 4L 4th with a 3.73. My question is would you rather run a 33" tire with one more inch width per tire (x6 tires), or run a 35" tire for more ground speed, but an inch narrower?

With 4th and 3.73s you have more speed than you need, Id look at going to bfgs or at2's if your tracks are that loose, sts will move to much dirt....kinda like the boggers..... I love sts's but the bfgs will stomp them on a loose track.

Are you going to change gears as well with the drw? We just had pulls and for zach fullers truck he ran 35" BFG a/t's. Had decent traction. Pulled in 4th. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1380038999.511649.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1380039008.112279.jpg

It was a toss up between BFG or the STS, everybody I talked to said the STS was better for loose/sandy hooks. I have no personal experience with them, so I'm in the dark.

If I pull 4L 3rd around here the tach is pegged, I figured 4th would be easier on the motor until the last 20'.

we ran the crap outta sts, this year with a majorty of bad tracks and power going up, the 33 sts just wernt cutting it any more, moving to 35 bfgs was a huge gain for us, but were runiing a final drive in the low 13s, the final drive of 73s and 4th is in the 10.s sometimes ya gotta slow things down to go faster on the track, loose tracks are tricky though, we pull on some sand tracks here and we pull on some red clay tracks, on they clay tires and setup arnt as important but on loose tracks the bfgs out did the sts hands down........if you woulda asked this question last year i woulda swore sts all the way.....its whats best for the setup, power and majorty of track surfaces you pull. but if your pullin loose sandy surfaces, id vote bgf/ at2!!

4.56's get you a 12.4 final drive
4.88's get you a 13.27 final drive
5.13's get you a 13.95 final drive. Calculating 4th gear (1:1) low side transfercase (2.72:1)

Maybe 4.88's, but loose tracks you should be able to run 4.56's

FWIW, and that's not a whole lot, I run 35's with 4.11's and the truck pulls my toy hauler(12.5k lbs) like a beast, better than stock did. I don't know how that can in anyway relate to sled pulling, or help with your gear decision:eek:

Even though I've never pulled a sled:eek:Now that I've driven my current set up for a while, I think 4.56's would be the cats meow for 35's on a dedicated pulling truck, not too much tire speed, just enough torque and just long enough to let the turbo dig in and do some work. But I just heard most of that on the internet:roflmao:

Some seriously experienced sled pullers have posted in this thread, as well as viewed without posting, and then there's hot cocoa.....

I am of a different breed, that's nothing new:rofl:
:hello:
;)

And it's COCOAL

I think he's just gotta tag every post, kinda like a male dog tagging every post :thumb:

Well... Thought I was getting a good deal on six 16" Dodge Dually rims for $120. Sucks that the inside rim will not clear the caliper without a 3" spacer  in search of two more rims that will clear

Actually, I was just hoping to hear some one chime in that had the same gears and tires as me and say they work well, so I knew if I had a chance to make a good pull if I ever do get the chance, that and I'm bored, sorry guys:hug:

Sorry to hear that those rims didn't work out like planned, I hate when that happens:mad:

We run a 3" spacer on hub, then a steel GM drw wheel, then a 2" spacer with a aluminum Alcoa off an older dodge drw. With 315/75/16 bfg's.

As far as traction goes, I was not impressed with them until midway through the season, when I decided to drop rear psi way down. Seemed to make a drastic difference. I am looking forward to trying even lower press when the truck runs again...

Is the problem with hitting the calipers because it's a dodge wheel? We had the same tire size on Zach fullers truck and they cleared with 2.5" spacers in between the outer and inner wheel. Stock 16" wheels. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1380682368.732311.jpg
