TLDR - Bought a dually, converting it to SRW and removing the lift. Selling Parts, trying to find parts, looking for advice.

I preemptively apologize for the book I'm about to write. So, I recently purchased this truck, some may recognize it. It was kind of a full circle moment for me when I saw it listed for sale. Back when ATP was in the thick of things and we were doing dyno days, The company that built it brought this truck out to one of them and I absolutely fell in love with it, back almost 10 years ago now when I was 16 or 17. It was one of those things where I thought to myself man, I wish I could own a truck like that but never thought I actually could. Back then, I could barely afford to buy $300 junkyard 5.3s to keep my Camaro running after grenading several engines on the dyno learning how to tune lol. Fast forward to about a month ago I saw it listed on Marketplace and even though I wanted it, I talked myself out of it. I have no need for a dually and it would've been completely impractical for me to own. After some negotiation, bartering and conversations with the wife, who encouraged me to buy it because she wanted my LML haha, I ended up with the truck for a deal too good to pass up. Its big and stupid, super fun to drive... for a short period of time. Daily driving a dually without a load is not fun. To be frank, it rides like ass and feels like I'm driving a bulldozer down the road. Even though I used to love the way it looked, I'm not as much of a fan of the all white, all aftermarket looks. Now I prefer much more stock looking trucks with some balls under the hood which is what I aim to do with this thing. Its already got some serious upgrades as far as drivetrain goes. Its a built motor, built trans, with compounds. The trans is a Dmax Store Stage 6, not sure what converter is in it. I don't know everything that's in this motor as some of the info has been lost over the years and they went through several motors before this one lived but here are the things I'm pretty sure on/positive.

Engine: LML block, Callies crank (unsure which one), ARP Main and Head Studs, SoCal main girdle, Carillo rods, Mahle cast pistons, SoCal valve springs and pushrods, Socal ported heads, SoCal 3388 alternate firing order cam, potentially O-ringed head and block, ATi Super Damper, SoCal billet flexplate, Dmax Store welded waterpump, 60% over Exergy injectors, S&S Stroker CP3 (not sure how big), 64mm valley charger, S480 top charger.

Annnyyywwayss, I have decided to SRW swap it, and remove the lift. its currently got a Cognito 4-6" NTBD lift in the front and beefy springs in the rear. If anyone wants parts from it, I will be selling the lift, King Shocks, rear springs, wheels and tires, bed, front diff and rear axle with all the brakes and everything on it. They've got 4.56 gears in them. Also wanting to do and LML front end swap so the Fusion bumpers, grill, headlights and tail lights are going to go too. I already purchased a rear axle and front dif but am still looking for a good 8ft bed if anyone has one or knows of one in or near Idaho.

For the guys that have reversed lift kits, or SRW swapped these trucks, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm working on gathering parts to remove the lift and I know for sure I will need a crossmember to weld back in, stock spindles, and stock sway bar links. What else should I expect to buy/do?

I intend to bracket race the truck a bit and as of now I would like to make the truck look like @lutzjk CCLB truck, just an inch or two taller. Here are some pics of the truck and a pic of @lutzjk truck for inspiration. Thanks in advance for any help, and for reading this book of a post.

I saw your request for the name change and approved it. How's your dad doing? Been a long time since I talked to him.

And who’s your dad?

Pretty sure nicks truck was on an 7-9” cognito loft but its been a loooooong time lol

It was built by the guys at Dmax store, was their shop truck/tow pig. I don’t like name dropping haha but my dad is Idaho Rob

Welcome Reen! Dont worry, we wont think of you any less .

You may be able to use the cognito upper arm (if it has it) but will need to put the ball joint through the top of the arm, not have it bolt in from the bottom. That will help alignment but all depends on the final ride height.

I would put some poly bushings in the lower arms to help keep them flexing under a 4wd launch. It probably already has a full krytonite steering kit on it but check it well for wear.

Any srw Rear end should bolt in but you need to make sure if you have two speed sensors at the rear wheel hubs, your srw axle has the same. I cant tell you the year split but i wanna say it was 09 or 10+.

may need to swap pinion yokes too depending on the rear end.

Front shocks may not work. I dont think cognito used the H fork style on the bottom for the center shock to the ntbd bracket. Pretty sure its an eye style shock that goes there.

Otherwise its pretty straight forward.

Tell him I said hello, and yes....retirement is pretty cool. Your Dad is thought of very fondly in our community. (y)

Listen to James and Joe on the swap/build. They've been there. done it.

I absolutely will tell him you said hello! and awesome, I'm stoked to hear they've got experience with this stuff

It's got Kryptonite upper arms that are almost new. Good to know that I can put the ball joint through the top of the arm if needed. I will look into doing poly bushings but it already feels pretty decent while launching in 4wd as is. the axle I got was out of an 07.5 truck, hopefully its got the same amount of speed sensors the dually axle does, I haven't looked yet. I got the front dif and rear axle with brakes and all for $600. I believe they went to the larger pinion yoke in 2007.5... hopefully haha. Good to know on the shocks too, I'd imagine I'll have to replace all four with as low as I want to go anyways. thanks for the input, I'm sure I'll be reaching out more when I start the swap. Gotta find everything first haha.

07.5 has the bigger u joints.

Might want to look at swapping to a 1 piece driveshaft while your doing this all. It seemed once I went low I ate up carrier bearings.

Sweeeet hopefully it’s the same amount of speed sensors too. It’s already got the single piece driveshaft thankfully!

Id have to look way back and find Ben's threads on adding stabilitrack to his 2006 truck, but I believe it was 2008 or 2009. If memory serves (and its been a long time), the sensor mounts were in the brake caliper knuckles, and the axles themselves were the same.

It was possible 09 if not 10 when they added stabilitrac. My 08 doesn’t have it. But I believe dually didn’t get stabilitrac until 11 if I remember correctly

My brothers 10 has it but its srw.

I know our scanners ask if rhe truck has stabilitrak every time we plug into a 07.5-10 so i just look for the button. I feel like 08 or 09 was th start but cant say for duallys. I know the 08 dually we just had in for a reductant heater didnt have stabilitrak

Thanks guys, it does not have a traction control button at all and I'm assuming the stabilitrack would be tied to that like my LML is?

Yup, i found some more info from Ben too

Post in thread 'Traction control' https://www.duramaxdiesels.com/forum/threads/traction-control.61656/post-861271

Whats still not clear is how many speed sensors you have on the back. I guess you can still have 2 rear wheel speed sensors without stabilitrak

LMM Dually will have no rear wheel speed sensors. They weren't added on dually trucks til 2015, so the DRW to SRW swap is easy. You can either throw a 2-3" wheel spacer on the narrower rear, bolt the wheel on and send it or swap in any 01-10 SRW rear axle. 07.5+ did go to a larger u-joint, just fyi.

I did it on an LML Dually years ago. The added benefit is you don't have stabikitrak to deal with which is nothing more than a pain in the ass on these in my experience.
