Hello guys. I’m continuing on with my engine build and have a couple questions. I’m in need of a good water pump so I’m looking for suggestions on pumps and recommendations on where to buy. That’s my first question.
As for the second question. I have a brand new set of GM lifters for this duramax and usually I clean every part, new and used in mineral spirits Pryor to oiling and installing. That said, I know some performance lifters come with special grease in the rollers but I’m not sure about the OE lifters. What do you guys suggest? Wash or don’t wash?
That about covers it. I have a brand new 2019 L5P oil cooler and bolts as well. Planning on assembling the cooler and water pump before installing the heads. Anyways thanks in advance

Water Pump: DHD if it's a 01-05, genuine GM if it's 06+.

Same. I clean them with a solvent then drop them in an oil bath.
Awesome. That’s what I will do then. I actually have a bucket of spirits and a stainless steel basket just for new parts. You would be surprised what comes off of new parts. Well I’m sure you know. Grit and grime.
I bit the bullet and ordered a max flow pump with the plastic impeller. I have heard good things about them. I appreciate the response from you guys

The DMax Store pumps are nothing more than R&D off the DHD/Danville pumps. Rob & duplicate.

I can’t comment for DMax store but DHD pumps are modified GM pumps, the outlet size on 06+ is larger than 01-05 so the smaller inlet is welded onto the late housing. Also an additional hole is drilled to support the 01-05 bolting pattern to the cover.

So you go with the DHD pump? I can do that no problem.
Got one more question to bug you with. Push Rods, what do you guys run? If you don’t mind my asking. I’m running Manton springs and was planning to go with something they offer but what is the question. I have a kit to measure the needed length but they have several options available. With a machined block and surfaced heads do you think I need to measure the pushrod length or just go with something off the shelf? Thanks

I have the full Manton package through XPD. 7/16 Push rods, Valve Springs, Bridges, Shafts. I Purchased Mine through Brad @Bdsankey

DHD sells directly under the Manton Name. The XDP name ads a few extra dollars to the same basic part. The XDP stuff was on the shelf in there warehouse at the time of my build.

My block was surfaced as well as the heads. No issue with Fitment. The rocker arms have adjustment in them for setting valve lash.

I Actually Broke a pushrod on install as one of the cups popped out from the ball mount on the rocker and I didn't catch it on time. I was able to Order them Direct from Manton and pick them up the next day. IIRC there is a minimum order charge, So I ended up with like 3 of them. It was right before a holiday and they were closing Early so I made the effort to Jam out and grab them first thing. There less than 60 miles from me so I was fortunate for that.

Yes sir, 01-05 I buy/sell only DHD pumps and 06+ I only buy/sell GM pumps. The water pump itself is identical (plus a drilled hole in 01-05) and has been super reliable. The GM pumps have a very low failure rate in my experience.

Personally I would run XDP/Manton 7/16" and be done with it. They're overkill but also harm nothing and are a great compliment to your spring pack. You will need OEM length.

Both of my engines have had both the block and heads machined and have had zero issues setting lash with OEM length pushrods.

The XDP versions are the same as Manton series 3 which also is what DHD is selling as well.

You got realllllyyyy lucky on that one meaning your proximity. Manton has been great to work with over the years and I will continue to support them!

Ran into something that I’m sure is probably debatable, lol. Would love your opinion if you don’t mind me asking. Oil coolers. I can go with the latest one however they gutted the oil filter on them. I’m leaning toward a 2019 L5P cooler due to the size of the filter. I understand the newer one has the largest cooler but damn what a small filter they put on it. What’s your thoughts?

I think you’re over analyzing it.

If the filter is a major holdup, DHD offers a an adapter. I’ve used them and they work well.

Well , I just pulled the trigger and ordered the 7/16 XDP pushrods and the XDP rocker shafts. Gonna have to order the rocker bridges next week when I recover, lol

You definitely can't go wrong with that stuff.
I also ended up replacing the hold down bolts with ARP bolts later on.
