I recently had my transmission built and since then if the truck sits for a few days I have to let it idle for a minute or so before it will respond to putting it in gear. It has done this several times. I'm waiting to hear back from the guy that built it but in the meantime I was wondering anyone has any idea what the issue could be.

Sounds like a sealing ring issue for the converter. Mine does this but it has a ton of miles on it. Will not hurt anything but not acceptable on a new build

The guy that built my transmission said he's going to get me a new spin on filter and to try that first.

Are you referring to the two Teflon seals that are on the input shaft? Maybe I damaged those when installing the torque converter?

I agree, sounds like something is letting the converter drain all its fluid back and needs time to refill.

I personally have zero hope that a filter will change your condition.

It is possible that you damaged them during installation, but, as James said, any builder should be shrinking them down. I purposefully use trans assembly gel on all of these to not only hold them down tightly but also to lubricate them, further minimizing the chance of damage.

That's not what I wanted to hear but I appreciate it. He specifically mentioned putting fluid on those two rings and the splines when installing the torque converter but didn't say anything about shrinking them. I'll try the filter when that arrives since that's what he wants but I guess I'll plan on pulling the transmission again.

It could be a converter issue too so dont rule that out
Well this just keeps getting better! The converter is a brand new triple disc from Suncoast.

As much fun as it is pulling the transmission, this is in a 1997 Hummer so there's a bunch of undercarriage protection to remove as well, is there anything I can log or test to help narrow this down? I have an Edge CTS2, a Tech 2 and an EfiLive FlashScan.
