Mike Humphrey. He is who tore down and hot tanked these spares some years back. Also did the rod work, and final balance of all the heavy spinning pieces. Life long machinist and Logan native. It's either been him or Oaks since I started playing again.

Ah wait, did use Fowler to do the old LLY block. Guess they are gone now.

Fowler closed down and sold out a year or so ago

There is a new player in the game though. He’s in Newark

Larry Morgan……

You might have heard of him. ?

Fowler did good work, I just didn't have enough engines in my toys to make his top 20 customers list. Which I realized when the guy behind me dropped of 3 aluminum big blocks. My old Dmax block sat in the corner half a year..

Still only engine shop owner I ever met who drove a 65 AMG....

Haven't heard of them. Don't know many people up that way.

Do find it funny that many of my buddies from school, who grew up in big farm pullin families, walked away for decades, and now seem to be getting back into the game. Have a good little farm circuit going over here last few years. Yet all of our local machine shops that we kept hopping thru the 80's and 90's, have long since gone away. Luckily, a few of those good old machinists carried some of those decent mills and skill out the door and into their home garage. So now I find myself tripping over peoples parts in small shops , with names on em that I haven't seen in 20 years..

Whaaaat?? Say it ain't so! His shop is big into Cummins stuff, but I'm sure he'd be able to do what you need. Drew use to work at Enterprise Engine when Dave was still around

The machinist who narrowed the rods and did final balance to half gram, cleaned up this 3rd set of heads for me.

They were freshly cut when I dropped em off, but needed a valve job to be 100%. He didn't like the finish, so got these pics a few minutes ago..

Anyone care to wager or this RA reading before I go pick em up??

I figured they had a phone app for checking RA. But guess only for reviews of 3D images.

Mike is a perfectionist. These looked much better than last 2 sets before I dropped em off..

We just popped a spring to find they were factory seals. I said clean up the seats, toss in some new seals, as they will likely be scrap alum like the other 4 I dropped off.

Tomorrow, Art at ARP call..

The real question is do you or him have a Profilometer to measure the actual RA?
There's a lot of info to be looked at with a Profilometer, whenever we run into a surface quality concern there's 4 or 5 readings that are taken into consideration besides just straight RA. Don't ask me which ones, I'm not the QA guy

First time I saw the price tag on the Mititoyo Surftest I understood why the QA guy didn't let us play with it

So I spoke with Mike today, and ask him about RA on those heads. He laughed and said, while he doesn't have a profilometer currently, he did borrow one for a while to set up his mill to do aluminum heads. He can get em smoother, but thinks they are low teens currently.

Heads look like good low mileage take offs. Then he found a couple guides had been replaced. So that makes us both wonder.. But as typical, all the valves and seats OEM 100% Duramax. He swapped on the good springs and rocker studs, and I call those heads done..
