Buying lb7 with known bad injectors

I'm looking to get back in a duramax. I've set a personal budget at $11,500 but preferably 10k or less. I'm looking at an 02 ccsb 4x4 that appears to be in good condition but is making oil and rough idle. Asking price is 7500. Another 02 I'm looking at is very sharp same setup but supposedly no signs of injector trouble. I'm kind of torn on which way to go and both are 3.5 hours away so I can't just quickly check them out. I have installed injectors 3 times in the past so no big concerns there. Thoughts?

Agreed but how long has it been driven on while making oil? That's not good on bearings...

Yeah kind of what I was thinking. Said he drove it 15 miles when it started acting up and found diesel in fuel. Any worries with that, and the rough idle would be typical with.a cracked injector body correct? Said it has an FPR code.

That is the question.. I've seen some that were pretty bad and filled the crankcase numerous times.. Trucks still going strong lol.

A friend and I picked one up making oil so bad it would fill up an dump out of the dipstick tube. Bought with around 150000 on it an now has around 190000 somthin. Guy was hauling a skid steer when it finally got to the condition it was when bought.

They seem to take the abuse reasonably well. Looking at another clean one (01) with no known issues as well. It's a dually which would be ok. Only using this truck for the camper. Bought a car for work commuting and it gets around 37 mpg highway.

they actually dont take the abuse well. you just dont notice it because the oil pump can make up for the increased clearance and not give you much warning signs. the stock bearings are soft, they can hammer them selves out and create a groove. i have a couple different sets of bearings, one particularity from my engine that has a 1/8" deep, 3/16" wide groove in it from something going through the main and rod bearings and you would never have known it by the way it ran.

I'm considering the dually at this point. Injectors are not a huge deal but I'm not in a position to deal with an engine at the moment. Or, if I can land an lly in my price range.

Just a thought on this thread too. I have an outstanding offer on a lb7 that I know needs injectors.. My labor is cheap to me, expensive to everyone else lol

So what's the general consensus for it being ran 15 miles while filling the crankcase?

It's probably been ran further than that and they just noticed it..

If the rest of the truck is nice is take a chance on it
