Ok. Picked up a salveged 01 with the boring 8.1 lol. Really not that boring just had bad pistons, piss poor heads, restricted intake but other than that it has possibilities for an 7 mpg towing vehicle and 11 unloaded.

So first step fix body with new doors and bondo here and there. Trying the dip your car stuff. Dark gray trimmed out in black flares and bumpers and grill. This will be my first attempt at the dipping stuff. Whatced ton of videos already on it. I do auto body paint though. Should be a breeze

If that works out ok then may find a donor motor (this one still runs great 220k) and build it with the raylar heads and cam. Plus intake work and see if we can blow this Allison up.

It has an 3" body lift. I know don't laugh. I hate them also. Should be a fun project though.

I would imagine it would hold 700 torque no problem

Thanks everyone talks about a 100hp tune killing them but wasn't sure if that was from hp or trq. I'm still old school. Love these bbc chevys.

A 100hp diesel tune due to the torque level. You're talking gasser. Torque will be a lot lower.

We'll will see lol. Hopefully get the body work done next two weeks and go from there.

And I agree the torque is lower but the HP Should make up for the losse of torque. Thanks

Not that know of many people with Aly behind an 8.1, but never heard of one not taking everything they threw at it. I knew of one guy with a turbo and another with a supercharger. He was on 53s boggers and drove that thing like a sports car.

Yeah I agree with bac the torque isn't the same. And thanks dozerboy I hope it holds up but we'll see. Lol. Got some used parts on today. I'm really considering that raylar 540 motor.

I was thinking the same thing. S475 is pretty standard with the "little" LS engines as a turbo option, so what would a person use with a BBC?

It’s been a while, but I think he had at 480 or comparable turbo. The thing is is the 8.1 is a lower revving engine so you can’t get too crazy or you get a ton of lag. The high horse power guys do twins or supers.

Sorry guys been awhile. Took the summer off to spend with the family and the humidity was stupid this year in dallas. Or I'm just getting older lol. No fun doing body work on the driveway with no shade and 108 index. Anyways can a moderator change the thread title lol. I'm rough on trucks that aren't my show pieces. Bought 4 gallons of raptor lining. It's like rhino and all. Not the same but a lot of great reviews. Going to use that. Got the cab corner replaced and most wiskey dents out. Hopefully shoot Thursday. My buddy that owned the truck thinks this 8.1 will take my lbz. I told him no way. We'll see next week stock BBC against stock lbz. I'll post some pics in a few

And I'll probably not blow it up on perpose lol. There hit and miss to find. But I will order the raylar 540 kit. Do a rebuild and fix all of the junk gm did.

I was surprised how well the harbor freight stud welder did to pull dents.
