What's the deal with an external wastegate on a duramax? If it sounds good on a Subaru, I can only image it on a truck.

The waste gate on the turbo opens and lets exhaust gas bypass the turbine, and back into the downpipe. Is this not the same in duramax-land?

Stock is internal wastegate, I'm asking if anyone does external wastegates.

I have 3 external gates, I can't hear them. They plumb back into exhaust.
Well in my STi an external wastegate fixed boost spike and held constant psi. With the stock internal wastegate, it was too small and caused it to over boost.

Diesel doesnt really care about boost spikes. We don't "go lean" from it. The gate on a diesel is mainly to keep the turbo in its map and to relieve excess drive pressure.
