Long story short blew motor in my 04 lb7 while pulling camper on the way to work. Had AAA tow the truck to a shop but they would not tow the camper so I have to upgrade that. Found a tow for the camper, 8 miles and $400 spent the night at a campground.
Really good coworker drove 3 hours one way the next day and hauled camper, wife and I to work. Worked the week, another friend drove me 4 hours to a dealership to pick up 2021 3500 srw Denali. Drove the 4 hours back to camper to hook up the next day and haul it to another job. 2 weeks of work and hauled camper home.
Had a fuel tank waiting on the front porch when I got home😀. Gotta love S&B. Hooked to the gooseneck and off to retrieve the 04. 6 hours one way will be a long day.

Is that the 62 gallon tank? A member on the Crossroads Camper forum I follow installed one on his 2013 Silverado 2500. I looked into those tanks but not ready to commit to one.

I put the 60 gallon on the 2021 long bed. But have the 62 gallon on the 04 and love it.

I always want one of those for towing, but they are to rich for my blood. My aluminum aux tank in the bed has worked out ok.

When I bought the tank for the 04 I weighted all kinds of questions.
Good aux tank about the same price. You would end up with more capacity with a aux tank
Loss of bed space. 6' bed and haul a 5th wheel, very tight with aux tank.
I don't need a transfer pump for other equipment, although can be added on a S&B tank.
Since I got the '21 LB (wanted LB back after 2 SBs) It is kind of the best of both worlds. More bed space to even add an aux in the future if I choose.
'04 26 gallon vs 62 gallon night and day.
'21 36 gallon vs 60 gallon not as much difference but still less stops.
As much as I pull the camper it helps to stop for cheaper fuel. I have to travel across Georgia a lot so if I can make it from AL to SC without a stop I save about 40 cents a gallon. My last stop bringing the camper home I pushed 36 gallons and had to pay $4.99, bad spot but next exit was $4.29. Installed new tank and filled up at home 4 days latter for $3.85.

And for the green tuning haters. I went form a tuned 04 at 11mpg hand figured to a 21 stock 9 mpg through the DIC. Both while towing 14K. Will end up doing hand calculation on the 21 to be sure. And now I have to throw out plastic jugs from DEF WTF!!!

thats not much of a surprise but double check via hand. I get about the same as my 02 did, when towing. ill bet a tune would change that on the 21, i know there are areas that can be tweaked to help with that. FWIW, the banks didnt help my mpg while towing at all. also didnt help add any speed when pulling hills either.

Ya those are the things I tossed around when I got my aux tank, but I found a used one for $200. That made the difference. And it's easy to take out when I need more bed space.

Really that mileage ain't bad. I've never gotten over 10mpg towing my big bumper pull with my 06. A lot of stations have DEF at the pump and unlike a lot of people I will top off my def pretty often at them. That way I don't mess with jugs. I top off before a trip too.

The DEF level gauge in the 20's and up sucks ass after a year or so. i think that crap messes up the sensor because ive gone from a 1/2 tank to 50 mile range in 100 miles, that got sketchy real quick. GM even has a TSB that the gauge is more of a "suggestion" than actual level

Tuning is "kind of" out for now. I won't say is pulls better it is different. I don't have drive it. It hold speed on cruise better don't have to drive by boost, but when I throttle down it doesn't go like the 04.

I did get a 5 year 125k so I will wear them out as much as I can on that. Never had one so I will see 🥴.

better make sure that area is covered. i know of ALOT of warranties that do not cover that.

Here I am ready to roll. Little did I know I put it in smoke signals for a reason. 2 trailer tires and 26 hours later I made it home. Doesn't take much to turn 14 hour job to 36. FYI my '79 sleeps a lot better than a '21
