Default Difference Between Axle Lube and Gear Lube?

I'm changing out my rear diff. cover and replacing the lube.
I did not catch this before mail ordering 8 quarts of AC Delco LS Gear Lube 10-4034 when I should have bought Axle Lube 10-4016.
From what I understand 10-4034 is for 2007 and newer. I have a 2005 Silverado 3500.
Anyone know the difference between the two and whether or not I can still 10-4034 in my 2005?

I'd just run it bud, as long as it's 75w+ it'll be fine

The gear oil 10-4034 has the friction modifiers for limited slip diffs. The stuff you got, maybe not the best, should work just fine

Iím fairly sure the 1150 axle was the same from 01í-10í
I donít know where you got your years from but I can tell you at our dealership for Case IH they always advance lubricants to make them more capable at reducing heat caused breakdown and sometimes old manuals donít show the superseded part #ís from the later manuals when servicing the same mechanical platform.
The prime difference between those two is the one you got (4034) isnít synthetic BUT it already has the limited slip package premixed in the bottle.
The other one you wanted (4016) is straight synthetic oil with no additives therefore would require a pint or whatever of limited slip additive to keep the rear end pack happy.

I don't believe the G80 (if that what he has) requires limited slip additive

They still have clutches, but aren't aggressive enough to need a friction modifier IMO. Even if the clutches did chatter, I'm sure most diesel drivers wouldn't notice.

It doesnít hurt to use a limited slip additive, all limited slip additive is in easier terms is a friction modifier. Iíve used it in the field to quiet down ďwet brakeĒ style axles

GL-5 oil is what is recommended for most Chevy trucks which contains no limited slip additive but does have many modifiers for rust, corrosion and foam. So I stand corrected!
