I'm an engineer who lays out lifts and such. Was on a job with 94k hanging on the hook at 400' radius when they called for 1/2" swing so they could make up the bolts.

Been on the deck when survey tells us we are 6" out of level and we hold with no movement for the duration of one stroke and call for a new shot. New shot says we are out of level 6" the other way (no movement of piece by us), then client tells us to start lifting and keeping it level the way we know how. 300' tape hanging down is faster and more reliable than survey. Survey complained that they could not get a reading fast enough.

Someone has asked that before all I did was rev the engine up some and said that's all she's got.

The pushed it into place

Yeah the operator on the job was sitting in the cab when they called that and just revel the engine. They quickly yelled stop.

Amazing that they thin you can make that small of a movement whey you are reached out that far. There is more than enough slop in the press fit parts due to material stretch than that, especially at 400'. And if the wind even thinks about blowing, the drift caused by that can be feet.

2-1/2" --
Why does the phrase, "So close yet so far" seem appropriate?
